Position Summary
The Market Leader develops new business in a defined market, enhances brand presence, and expands market share. This teammate maintains long-term relationships, analyzes industry trends, and leads projects from inception to completion. The Market Leaders also optimizes operations, monitors efficiency, and drives growth in design.
Essential Functions
- Strategic & Market Leadership
- Develop and refine go to market strategies for assigned sectors, including positioning, value propositions, and competitive differentiation
- Forecast market demand and identify emerging trends, technologies, and client needs to inform studio and practice strategy
- Guide pursuit strategy through Go/No-Go evaluations aligned with firm priorities and resource planning
- Client & Relationship Development
- Expand the client network by attending industry conferences, professional associations, trade events, and community functions
- Facilitate client feedback sessions and post occupancy evaluations to strengthen relationships and enhance service delivery
- Coordinate with cross disciplinary leaders to ensure seamless integration of design, technical expertise, and client services
- Pursuit Management & Proposal Leadership
- Lead the development of proposal narratives, presentations, and interview strategies that align with client goals and showcase firm strengths
- Oversee pipeline development and pursuit activity, ensuring accurate forecasting and prioritization of strategic opportunities
- Partner with marketing to craft compelling content, case studies, and qualifications packages tailored to target markets
- Internal Collaboration & Operational Insight
- Partner with Finance/Practice Operations to track market performance, revenue projections, and client development budgets
- Lead internal market-focused meetings to communicate opportunities, trends, and pursuit updates to studio and practice leadership
- Support project teams by providing insight into client expectations, competitive intelligence, and sector-specific best practices
- Thought Leadership & Brand Building
- Promote the firm’s expertise by supporting speaking engagements, thought leadership articles, award submissions, and industry panels
- Collaborate with marketing to elevate the firm’s visibility through digital campaigns, social media initiatives, and sector specific content
- Drive the development of sector research, benchmarking tools, and knowledge sharing resources
- Business Growth & Partnerships
- Cultivate partnerships with consultants, contractors, developers, and peer firms to expand opportunities and joint venture potential
- Explore new service lines or revenue models aligned with client needs and emerging market directions
- Identify cross selling opportunities across studios, practices, and disciplines

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture (or related field) and licensed to practice
- At least ten years of combined internship and professional experience, including managing teams and projects
- Proven experience in a leadership role within the respective practice design sector
- Ability to think creatively and strategically
- Expertise in design, project management, estimating needs and budgets, and delivering projects on time
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, able to motivate and guide teams while maintaining confidentiality
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, familiar with Adobe software, and strong knowledge of building technology
- Highly organized, quick to learn, attentive to detail, and able to work both independently and collaboratively
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Demonstrates cultural awareness and sensitivity
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Architecture
- Leadership experience on projects that have won design awards
- Experience presenting in public and/or private presentations, workshops, etc.
- Experience with Newforma Project Center and/or Newforma Project Analyzer
- Experience with Bluebeam PDF Revu
- Experience with Autodesk Revit software
- Additional relevant certifications indicating additional expertise such as for construction administration, interior design, LEED/Green Globes/sustainability, etc.
