POSITION MISSION: This position works closely with members of the team to provide analysis for the organization related to key areas around pricing, reserving or other analytical specialties.


POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists and completes actuarial analysis related to pricing, reserving, and other analytical projects under the guidance and direction of senior actuarial staff.
  • Supports preparation of quarterly rate indications and reserve analysis by gathering data, running standard reports, and performing basic calculations.
  • Suggests product and pricing changes to sustain growth and to improve profitability.
  • Performs a variety of actuarial analyses regarding core product lines, runoff specialty lines, reinsurance, enterprise risk management and others.
  • Researches and summarizes useful information on competitors products, pricing, and activities.
  • Uses data gathering techniques and software to provide summarized data and reports to business partners as necessary.
  • Understands, analyzes and informs business partners on relevant internal and external trends impacting various business lines.
  • Identifies problems affecting policy output and rating, and works with all applicable personnel to achieve system improvements, individual policy corrections, and communication of outcomes.
  • Communicates technical expertise regarding product, pricing and reserving to employees and agents.
  • Helps maintain and update monthly actuarial processes, including monitoring and maintaining and computing of the IBNR used in financial statements.


OTHER DUTIES:

  • Participates in product testing and compliance efforts when necessary.
  • Conducts ad hoc analysis as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.


  • Foundational knowledge of actuarial, statistical, or mathematical principles used in insurance pricing and reserving.
  • Basic understanding of insurance concepts, including policy forms, coverages, rating structures, and loss data.
  • Awareness of how actuarial analyses support business decisions, financial reporting, and regulatory requirements. 
  • Ability to perform basic and intermediate actuarial calculations, review outputs for reasonableness, and follow established analytical processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, ability to use formulas, pivot tables, and standard analytical tools. Exposure to SQL, PowerBI, or actuarial software preferred.
  • Ability to identify critical issues and communicate to senior actuarial staff for review.
  • Ability to recognize data inconsistencies, unusual results, or process issues and escalates them appropriately.
  • Ability to manage assigned tasks, meet deadlines, and balance multiple priorities.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undergraduate degree in a quantitative field is required or experience commensurate with the role.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel required, with working knowledge of SQL desired.
  • Pursuing actuarial exams is a plus.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Position operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office and mobile equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.
  • Position may require traveling to attend both internal and external meetings, attending conferences and other training events.
  • Flexibility in daily work times and telecommuting is allowed; average 40-hour week; occasional evening, weekend work, or overnight travel may be required as job duties demand.
