POSITION: Counselor – Summer Program 

DEPARTMENT: Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Services

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Summer Program Director

Seasonal (7 weeks) Part Time (0-28 hours) June 29, 2026- August 13, 2026.

Week 1: Mandatory orientation June 29-July 1, 2026.

Week 2-week 7: Summer Program (Monday-Thursday) July 6 – August 13, 2026. 8:15a-2:45pm or as scheduled.

Hourly rate: $16.00


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - The Counselor position is responsible for supervising campers and ensuring safety during all activities. Qualities of a successful counselor include:  patience, enthusiasm, sensitivity, responsibility, creativity and flexibility. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Engage campers in various activities.
  • Demonstrate techniques, encourage creativity,      and provide guidance to help campers learn new skills. 
  • Supervision of assigned campers at all times.
  • Model and encourage appropriate social skills.
  • Build positive connections with campers.
  • Facilitate games and down time activities      outside of the regular camp schedule. 
  • Adherence to program/team schedule; daily      activities and special events.
  • Awareness and appropriate utilization of behavior      management plans. 
  • Communicate any behavior or safety concerns      with Team Lead and Program Director.
  • Awareness of camper/counselor allergies,      medications, and emergency contact information
  • Bus duty; safe arrival/departure of campers.
  • Report incidents/accidents to appropriate      program personnel.
  • Assist campers with activities of daily living      as necessary.
  • Attend team meetings, orientations and required      trainings.
  • Performing      any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.


Requirements

 REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Provide employment permit (working papers) if      under age 18.
  • Must have GED / H.S. Diploma if not currently      enrolled in High School.

Preferred but not required

  • Experience working with individuals that have      functional differences. 
  • Experience working at a summer camp or school      setting.
