The Nurse Practitioner (NP) plays a key role in delivering high-quality, compassionate medical care to individuals undergoing detoxification, treatment, and recovery. This position oversees clinical services within the IMS program and collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated, client-centered care. The NP ensures compliance with all IMS and DHCS standards while supporting a safe, trauma-informed, and culturally competent environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Uphold and promote the mission, philosophy, values, and direction of McAlister Institute. 
  • Work closely with the Associate Director of IMS to align services with program goals. 
  • Complete medical assessments, histories, and physical exams for all admissions. 
  • Monitor health status and oversee self-administered medications via eMAR.
  • Assess withdrawal symptoms and apply appropriate protocols. 
  • Prescribe and manage withdrawal, psychotropic, and MAT medications per state regulations. 
  • Order and interpret labs relevant to SUD populations. 
  • Approve IMS admissions, readmissions, and discharges. 
  • Provide client education on SUD and MAT. 
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation. 
  • Ensure compliance with IMS policies, procedures, and DHCS guidelines. 
  • Participate in audits, quality improvement efforts, and quarterly medication reviews. 
  • Contribute to staff training, promote best clinical practices, and support/guide IMS staff (LVN’s, RN’s, MA’s, Coordinators). 
  • Help develop referral pathways with external providers. 
  • Perform other assigned duties as needed.
Requirements
  • Current, valid California Nurse Practitioner License in good standing. 
  • Current BLS/ACLS (or ability to recertify within 2 months). 
  • Strong knowledge of addiction medicine, withdrawal management, and MAT. 
  • Excellent clinical judgement, communication, documentation, and teamwork skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate records. 
  • Clean driving record with at least two years of driving experience. 
  • Frequent travel between program sites is required. 
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Ability to pass all pre-employment screenings, including references, education verification, a criminal background check with at least one year clear of probation or parole, a drug test, and a TB test.

Pre-Employment:


All employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment requirements including a criminal background investigation, which involves fingerprinting. (A felony or misdemeanor conviction may disqualify the applicant from McAlister Institute employment as we are subject to County of San Diego contractual hiring requirements). A pre-employment physical examination, and post-offer background check is required. Candidates must have at least one year clear of probation or parole, a drug test, and a negative TB test.

Placement on the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications.

Salary Description
$65 - $70 / hour
