Position Description:
AXIS is seeking a hard-working, flexible person to support the classroom lead teacher with implementing instruction and reinforcing learning skills in small and large groups, with classroom management and behavior, and with daily classroom tasks such as supervision, copies, prepping classroom materials, etc. This position is an assistant teacher in a 1st grade Spanish classroom half the day and a Kinder Spanish classroom half the day. Spanish should be used with students through the day. Hours are M, W, Th 7:30-4:00; Tuesdays 7:30-4:30; and Fridays 7:30-3:30pm with 30-minute lunch daily.
Position Responsibilities:
- Assist the classroom teacher with implementation of instructional plans.
- Assist the classroom teacher with facilitating small group support; at times. providing individualized support to students with varying learning needs.
- Assist the classroom teacher in preparing classroom materials, administering tests, grading, taking attendance, completing paperwork, maintaining files, and/or documenting student progress.
- Provide conditions for a positive and caring learning environment.
- Follow our behavior protocols and use positive reinforcement and support the teacher with behavior management as needed.
- Attend work and arrive in a timely manner.
- Attend appropriate staff meetings, training, and/or school events.
- Perform any additional duties as assigned, which are consistent with the effective and orderly operation of this position, and the school-wide educational goals.
Required Qualifications:
- Associates or equivalent; Bachelor's preferred
- English language proficiency
- Spanish language proficiency (intermediate level or above)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with students in a school setting
- Experience at the elementary school level
