Description

West Valley Christian School (WVCS) seeks a passionate and dedicated Preschool Teacher to nurture and guide young learners in a Christ-centered environment. The teacher will prayerfully support students in developing essential attitudes, skills, and knowledge that contribute to their spiritual, academic, social, and emotional growth. Through a balance of structured learning and creative exploration, the teacher will foster a love for God, learning, and community. 

Spiritual Leadership

  • Introduce young children to God’s love and Jesus Christ in an age-appropriate way.
  • Create a nurturing, Christ-centered classroom environment that fosters spiritual development.
  • Support the spiritual formation of students by modeling Christian character and encouraging faith-based discussions.
  • Partner with administration and staff to integrate biblical principles into early education.

Academic & Instructional Leadership

  • Implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum aligned with the school’s mission and early education standards.
  • Integrate biblical principles throughout lessons and classroom activities.
  • Address the cognitive, spiritual, physical, emotional, and social needs of each child in a group setting.
  • Use engaging and interactive teaching methods to encourage curiosity and exploration.
  • Provide a structured yet flexible classroom routine that supports student learning.
  • Develop creative lesson plans that cater to individual student needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Foster language development by modeling and encouraging effective communication skills.
  • Encourage self-directed learning through age-appropriate choices and classroom management techniques.
  • Regularly assess student progress through observation and documentation, providing reports to parents as required.

Classroom Management & Student Engagement

  • Maintain a warm, organized, and stimulating learning environment.
  • Implement positive behavior management strategies that promote respect and responsibility.
  • Guide children in making good choices while ensuring a safe and structured classroom.
  • Use a variety of instructional materials and assessment methods to support diverse learning styles.
  • Encourage a love for learning through hands-on activities, group projects, and play-based instruction.
  • Supervise children closely and intervene when necessary to ensure their safety and well-being.

Communication & Parent Partnership

  • Establish and maintain open communication with parents regarding student progress and classroom activities.
  • Provide timely feedback through parent-teacher conferences, newsletters, and informal updates.
  • Collaborate with parents, administration, and support staff to address individual student needs.
  • Foster a positive partnership with families to encourage involvement in school activities and spiritual growth at home.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Uphold WVCS’s mission and values while demonstrating professionalism in all interactions.
  • Participate in school meetings, professional development, and training opportunities.
  • Adhere to ethical guidelines regarding confidentiality and student privacy.
  • Prepare substitute teacher plans when needed and support school-wide events.
  • Follow all safety protocols, including emergency drills and campus security procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.
  • Support the school’s development efforts through participation in fundraising and outreach events.

Additional Duties

  • Assist with school-wide events, including chapel, community service projects, and special celebrations.
  • Encourage parental involvement in prayer, volunteerism, and classroom support.
  • Participate in the end-of-year classroom closing process, including inventory and organization.
  • Perform any additional responsibilities assigned by the Elementary Principal or Director.
Requirements

Education, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • A committed follower of Jesus Christ, demonstrating spiritual maturity and a calling to Christian education, who aligns with WVCS’s mission and Statement of Faith.
  • Faithfully attends and supports a local church whose beliefs align with the school’s statement of faith.
  • Associate’s degree (AA) in Early Childhood Education or Child Development from an accredited institution (or willingness to complete a degree within a specified time).
  • Meet state requirements for an early education teacher.
  • Hold (or be willing to obtain) ACSI Early Education Certification.
  • Complete ACSI’s Principles and Practices of Christian Early Education course within the first year of employment.
  • Maintain current infant/child CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Passionate about Christian education and committed to developing students academically, spiritually, and socially.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Level One IVP fingerprint card.

Physical Requirements

  • Use a computer (visual and keyboarding) for long periods.
  • Able to remain stationary (sitting or standing) 50% of the time.
  • Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • At times requires stooping, bending, turning, pushing, pulling, reaching and climbing stairs.
  • Use hands, fingers, and arms to reach, grip, and maneuver objects.
  • Must be able to respond quickly to sounds (fire/security alarms).
  • Work in noisy and crowded school environments.
  • Frequent walking throughout the campus.
