Description
The Coding Abstractor is responsible for adding the correct referral source, discharge disposition, and admitting/attending MDs. Has full access to patient health information.
Coding Abstractor will work on-site. If satisfactory quality and productivity standards are met, an option for remote work is possible.
Shift: M-F, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Current AHIMA or AAPC credential (RHIA / RHIT / CCS / CCA / CPC / CPC-H) preferred.
- Excellent communication, computer and typing skills required.
- Ability to tolerate viewing computer monitor for extended periods of time.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and various medical specialties.
- Ability to read handwritten documentation, detail oriented, and able to work with increasing independence.
- Ability to professionally cope with stressful situations.
- Able to identify problematic situations / issues and work with management to resolve or improve them.
Essential Physical Requirements:
- Must pass a basic FIT test to include bending, stooping, standing and sitting for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
- Requires normal vision/hearing range (+/- assistive devices such as glasses or hearing aids) and absence of color-blindness.
