JOB SUMMARY


Program Counselors further the mission of Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains (GSTOP) through summer programming. 


Program Counselors are key members of the team, responsible for creating a safe, fun, and supportive environment for campers. Program Counselors implement activities, engage with girls, and provide day-to-day guidance to ensure girls develop new skills, make new connections, and have a memorable experience.


Requirements


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Learns evacuation procedures.
  • Trains girls on weather safety and evacuation procedures.
  • Assists in the process of check-in and check-out.
  • Assists with girl health check-in.
  • Communicates with parents and guardians. 
  • Helps girls get settled in.
  • Assists in the direction, supervision, and organization of girls.
  • Applies basic youth development principles in working with girls through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement, and empowerment of youth.
  • Assures girls are properly and always supervised.
  • Be aware of and implements safety guidelines.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of program activities for girls within the mission and outcomes.
  • Responsible for leading and assisting with the teaching of activities.
  • Actively participates in all program areas as assigned.
  • Provides the progression of activities within the framework of individual and group interests and abilities.
  • Maintains a high standard of health and safety in all activities for girls and staff.
  • Provides the daily care of each girl within your supervision including recognition of personal health needs.
  • Ensures that girls receive their medications as 
  • Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure utilization, proper care, and maintenance is adhered to; reports repairs needed promptly to the Program Leader.
  • Be a role model to girls and staff in your attitude and behavior.
  • Follows and upholds all safety and security rules and procedures.
  • Sets a good example to girls and others regarding general procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule, and sportsmanship.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Minimum 18 years of age. 
  2. Valid CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification (will be provided if needed).
  3. Commitment to the mission and purpose of Girl Scouting.
  4. Must be willing to work with all people without regard to race, religion, ethnic origin, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, age, or disability.
  5. Experience and/or education in general Outdoor Education or Girl Scouts is a plus.
  6. Desire and ability to work with children and adult. 
  7. Verbal fluency, good grammar, and professional appearance.
  8. Have and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, acceptable insurance, and reliable transportation.
  9. Must complete and pass a criminal background check, motor vehicle records check, and drug screening.

  • Ability and willingness to work outside in all weather conditions, walk long distances and on uneven terrain, lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability and willingness to work in an environment includes exposure to environmental allergens including dust, mold, pollen, live birds, insects, and other animals. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. 


CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

  • Valid CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (will be provided if needed).

$12 Hourly
