Tube Saw Operator

Position Summary

The Tube Saw Operator is responsible for operating an automatic horizontal band saw (Scotchman 275 L/PK/PD) to cut round mild steel tubing to specified lengths. This is an entry-level position with on-the-job training provided. The machine uses an automatic feed system, reducing manual handling of long materials. The position offers on-the-job training and the opportunity to develop skills for advancement into more complex machine operations.

  

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate automatic tube saw equipment to cut round mild steel tubing to specified lengths. 
  • Set up and adjust cut lengths according to job specifications and production requirements. 
  • Monitor machine operation during production runs to ensure consistent performance and output. 
  • Ensure tubing is properly loaded, aligned, and feeding correctly into the machine. 
  • Perform routine inspections of cut parts to verify accuracy, quality, and adherence to specifications. 
  • Remove finished parts and stage materials for the next production process. 
  • Monitor coolant levels and basic machine functions to support optimal operation. 
  • Identify and report machine issues, quality concerns, or maintenance needs to the Supervisor. 
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in alignment with 5S standards. 
  • Follow all company safety procedures, policies, and PPE requirements. 

  

Material Handling Responsibilities

  • Operate forklift and/or other material handling equipment (MHE) to load tubing bundles onto machine infeed systems. 
  • Safely transport raw materials and finished goods throughout the facility. 
  • Ensure proper storage and staging of materials to support workflow and production efficiency. 
  • Maintain safe material handling practices at all times.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. 
  • No prior machine operation experience required; on-the-job training provided.      
  • Forklift experience preferred or willingness to be trained and certified. 
  • Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure. 
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills. 
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. 
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
