Description
The Truss Sawyer is responsible for accurately cutting lumber components used in the manufacturing of roof and floor trusses. This role ensures all materials are cut to specification, labeled correctly, and delivered efficiently to the assembly line while maintaining safety and quality standards. The hours for this position are 5:00 PM - 3:30 AM, Sunday - Thursday.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate saw equipment to cut lumber according to truss design specifications and cut lists
- Read and interpret production paperwork, including cut sheets and truss layouts
- Measure and verify material lengths and angles for accuracy
- Stage and organize cut materials for truss assembly teams
- Perform routine maintenance and safety checks on saw equipment
- Monitor lumber quality and report defects or inconsistencies
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Work closely with production and design teams to meet daily output goals
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA guidelines
Requirements
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous experience in truss manufacturing, carpentry, or saw operation is a plus
- Ability to read a tape measure and understand basic math (fractions, angles)
- Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Frequently lift 50–75 lbs
- Ability to work in varying temperatures (typical of manufacturing environments)
- Repetitive use of hands and arms
