The Historic New Orleans Collection seeks a dynamic and collaborative Communications & Marketing Associate. Reporting to the Director of Communications and Marketing, this position will shape and amplify HNOC’s public presence through integrated public relations, marketing, and advertising initiatives, including traditional and digital media. Working with colleagues across the organization and third-party vendors, the position will develop and distribute effective messaging for multiple platforms in order to drive visitation, engagement with, and awareness of HNOC.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The below duties and responsibilities are essential core functions of this position. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Work closely with colleagues across all departments to align communications efforts with institutional goals and audience engagement strategies. 
  • Craft public relations materials and marketing messaging for broad, integrated campaigns promoting HNOC’s exhibitions, programs, events, and books.
  • Serve as a primary media contact, managing inbound press inquiries and coordinating interviews, press previews, and editorial access. 
  • Represent the institution externally and help steward relationships that advance HNOC’s public profile and mission. 
  • Collaborate with agency partners and internal creative teams to plan, develop, and execute paid advertising campaigns across digital, print, out-of-home, radio, and broadcast channels. 
  • Working with the director of communications, ensure responsible stewardship of institutional resources by managing advertising budgets, vendor relationships, and media buys.  
  • Stay current on emerging advertising platforms, audience trends, and best practices in cultural sector marketing.
  • Contribute to broader marketing and communications planning, including content calendars, campaign timelines, and editorial workflows. 
  • Support institutional events, openings, and press previews as needed, including occasional evening and weekend work.
Requirements

Job Qualifications

Below are the minimum requirements necessary for this position.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree, with a preference for a degree in English, communications, journalism, business, or history.  

Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or similarly complex environment. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills across a variety of formats and audiences. 
  • Ability to translate complex institutional narratives into compelling public-facing stories.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively across teams and independently. 
  • Ability to be flexible and responsive to an evolving work environment. 
  • Exceptional attention to detail.

Salary Description
$63,600-$73,200 per year
