Description

The Schechter Athletic Director is the administrative leader in planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating the interscholastic and intramural programs for grades 5-8. The Athletic Director promotes extra curricular activities that foster skill development, understanding of sports, and appreciation for a variety of athletic activities and programs, teaming, and sportsmanship for students and adults. 


Duties of this role include: 

  • Strong leadership skills to work as part of an administrative team, promote and support student activities as well as staff needs, problem solving skills, service-related skills, verbal and written communication skills, and organizational skills to balance demands of a multi-tasking position. 
  • Strong attention to detail and follow through on all tasks, and ensure that all participants have filled out all required forms before participating in any athletic activities. 
  • Following all rules and regulations of the league, school, and board. Including preparing lists, submitting schedules, consistently following the athletic code of conduct and following up with teachers as needed. 
  • Working with the principal to resolve problems of discipline concerning athletes, the program, and issues that come up with coaches. 
  • Prepare and maintain a budget for the athletic program. 
  • Supervise on-site athletic activities and perform athletic-related administrative duties during the summer months as needed. 
  • Recruit, interview, hire and evaluate athletic coaches with support from the principal. 
  • Maintain the athletic calendar with all pertinent departments in the school. Schedule the use of the athletic facilities and assume the responsibilities for all canceled games and reschedule as needed. 
  • Keep an updated inventory of all athletic equipment and uniforms and then keep all those materials in satisfactory condition and order new materials as needed. 
  • Provide equipment, team medical supplies, and uniforms prior to each season and ensure that the coaches return all equipment and unused supplies. 
  • Arrange for officials for all athletic events and make arrangements for payment for all officials. 
  • Be present, or arrange for a school representative, at all home games, and assign a coach to assume responsibility for all away games. 
  • Arrange for assistance for all home games including timekeepers, scorekeepers, security, and custodians. 
  • Arrange and confirm bus or other transportation for athletic participants and communicate the athletic transportation policy to all coaches. 
  • Communicate and document all medical and emergency procedures and arrange for the availability of medical supplies at all home contests. 
  • Conduct athlete, parent, and coaches meetings as needed. 
  • Represent the school at league meetings and events. 
  • Communicate facility issues with the Director of Buildings and Grounds. 
  • Promote and model good sportsmanship and maintain an active program that welcomes competing teams, guests, and game officials. 
  • Follow a chain of command for issues and complaints: 
    • Athlete to coach
    • Athlete to Athletic Director 
    • Athletic Director to Principal 
  • Physically able to perform the essential functions of the job; stand, walk, sit, and occasionally lift, carry, move heavier objects and equipment. 

Reports to the K-8 Principal 

Requirements
  • Experience as an athletic director or coach 
  • First aid and CPR certification 
  • A desire to promote the athletic program 
  • A bachelor's degree 
  • Teaching certification or equivalent teaching experience
