Vessel Engineer
Description

Purpose:  

The Vessel Engineer’s primary role at BETA Fueling Systems is to oversee the design and construction of pressure vessels. It will be the Vessel Engineer's responsibility to know the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel code, maintain and create drawing packages, create 3D CAD Layouts, work with manufacturing/assembly to optimize production and quality, and implement solutions which deliver exceptional value to our customers on budget by the scheduled date of completion. This person will have the ability to self-manage multiple assignments and requests in a dynamic work environment and will employ sound design practices in tandem with industry-accepted design practices. The Vessel Engineer will also be responsible for maintaining the environmental safety and reporting for the factory. This position is located in Reidsville, NC.  


Key Responsibilities:

VESSELS

  • Review and maintain BETA’s quality control manuals for vessels
  • Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, etc.
  • Design pressure vessels to ASME Section VIII, Division 1
  • Create 3D vessel models and fabrication drawings
  • Create and maintain vessel bill of materials in Jobscope ERP system
  • Create quotes
  • Maintain welder and weld procedure documentation and administer testing
  • Analyze and validate material/component selection, tolerances, performance, costs & manufacturability
  • Recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions
  • Conduct research that tests/analyzes the feasibility, design, operation and performance of equipment, components, and systems as outlined in customer design proposals
  • Develop and test models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating condition effects, possible new applications, and necessity of modification
  • Assist drafters in developing the structural design of product using drafting tools and/or CAD
  • Develop, coordinate, and monitor all aspects of production, including selection of manufacturing methods, fabrication, and operation of product designs
  • Provide assembly support during the build process
  • Investigate equipment failures to diagnose faulty operation and create solutions 
  • Correspond with purchasing team to procure alternate components when necessary
  • Attend continuing education workshops, review professional publications, establish personal networks, etc.



ENVIRONMENTAL

  • Support the chemical conversion process and maintenance responsibilities as outlined in the Chemical Conversion SOP and other procedural documents
  • Support the wastewater treatment, sampling/testing and discharge process as outlined in procedural documents
  • Support the generation, submittal & maintenance of various safety and environmental reports, as required by BETA’s local, state, and federal permits (City Industrial User, North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality & Environmental Protection Agency), which includes wastewater treatment, sampling/testing & discharge reports, underground water sampling/treatment reports, air quality reports, hazardous waste reports, etc.
  • Support the annual recertification and internal training for hazardous waste


Requirements

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Mechanical Engineering is preferred
  • 1-5 years relevant manufacturing experience
  • 3D Modeling Software Experience (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Understanding of manufacturing equipment (Plasma cutting, Waterjet table, CNC Lathe, Welding, Plate Bending, CNC tube bending)
  • High energy, strong communication skills and the ability to adapt to new challenges
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical manuals
  • Experience estimating cost/budget for a project
  • Demonstrated success working in a team environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products
  • Sight, hearing, speech and written communication capabilities sufficient to interact well with individuals and groups
  • Familiar with industrial safety equipment and use of common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and hard hats
  • Physical Requirements – using hands to handle, control or feel objects and tools, ability to read written instructions, lift and/or move materials up to 50 pounds independently
  • As needed travel domestically and abroad 


Highly Preferred:  

  • ASME Boiler Pressure Vessel Code (ASME Section VIII: Design and Construction of Pressure Vessels) experience
  • Materials and welding engineering experience
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and costing as related to stainless steel vs aluminum vs carbon steel
  • Stress analysis and/or computer assisted FEA
  • Experience reviewing and authorizing standard operating procedures and other controlled documents 
  • 3-5 years’ design engineering experience
  • Design experience in welded structures and framing, pipe layouts, sheet metal design, and other mechanical systems
  • Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) systems for drawing revision control (i.e. SolidWorks PDM)
  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. (i.e. Jobscope)
  • Experience with complex assemblies
