Description

Sam is a 29-year-old gentleman who is diagnosed with autism and lives with his father. Sam is nonverbal, 

however, communicates by using hand gestures, minimal ASL signs, and head nodding. He may gently 

guide staff by the arm and point to express his wants and needs. Sam and his father are seeking a DSP to 

provide 10 hours of weekly support within his residence. Sam's father is flexible with how the number of 

hours is divided throughout the week. Sam enjoys music from the 1970's and 1980's. The Rolling Stones 

are a favorite household band. Sam will rock and dance to music. Sam has a laptop and has been able to 

navigate the Internet to watch his favorite videos or listen to music. He navigates YouTube and watches 

videos by himself. Sam likes the Wiggles, Thomas the Tank Engine, or Richard Scarry videos. Sam carries 

a "jump rope" or shoestring with him at all times. He uses this as a sensory activity. Sam also carries a 

picture book with him everywhere he goes. Sam does best with a structured routine. Sam follows a specific 

sequence of getting ready each day; however, Sam often gets stuck between steps and has difficulty with 

transition. It is important for staff to be patient and gently encourage Sam to move on to the next step in his 

routine. This ensures Sam's success. Sam is independent with some activities of daily living (ADLs); 

however, he may need consistent verbal cues to stay on track. Sam may require minimal hands-on support

with personal care and meal preparation. 


PAY: $20/hr.

Level of Supervision: HIGH

Flexible Schedule- 10 hours a week
