Position Overview

Thomas College is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Senior Accountant to support the financial operations of the College. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting and is actively involved in month-end close, reconciliations, audit preparation, and financial analysis. The Senior Accountant will also support grant accounting, compliance, and process improvements across the institution.


Key Responsibilities Include:

Financial Accounting & General Ledger Management

  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate recording of financial transactions
  • Prepare journal entries and monitor revenue and expense activity

Month-End Close, Reconciliations & Reporting

  • Perform monthly close processes, including account, bank, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Prepare financial reports and assist with financial statement preparation

Grant Accounting & Restricted Funds

  • Track and report on grant-funded activity and ensure compliance with donor and regulatory requirements
  • Monitor grant budgets and expenditures in collaboration with program managers

Audit, Compliance & Regulatory Reporting

  • Support annual audits and prepare schedules and documentation
  • Assist with regulatory reporting including Form 990, IPEDS, FISAP, and other required filings

Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis

  • Assist with budget development and financial forecasting
  • Analyze financial data and provide recommendations to improve performance

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Support financial systems, chart of accounts maintenance, and asset management
  • Participate in system upgrades and process enhancements

Collaboration & Support

  • Partner with departments across campus to provide financial guidance and resolve discrepancies
  • Provide training and support on accounting processes and systems

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required,  Master’s preferred
  • 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
  • Experience with month-end close and reconciliations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in higher education or non-profit accounting
  • Grant accounting experience and familiarity with Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200)
