Job Title: Middle School Humanities Teacher (History, Theology, English)
Reports To: Principal

Position Summary

The Middle School Humanities Teacher is responsible for delivering a rigorous, integrated curriculum in history, theology, and English language arts, grounded in Catholic values and tradition. This teacher fosters intellectual curiosity, spiritual growth, and strong communication skills in students while supporting the mission of Catholic education: forming the whole person—mind, body, and spirit.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

  • Plan and teach engaging lessons in history, theology, and English for grades 6–8 (or assigned grade level).
  • Design interdisciplinary units that connect literature, historical context, and theological themes.
  • Incorporate Catholic teachings, Scripture, and moral reasoning into daily instruction.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and abilities.
  • Assess student progress through a variety of formative and summative methods, providing timely feedback.

Faith Formation

  • Model and promote Catholic values in all interactions.
  • Lead students in prayer and participate in school liturgies, Masses, and religious activities.
  • Integrate faith into academic content, encouraging students to reflect on ethical and spiritual dimensions of their studies.
  • Support students’ spiritual development and moral decision-making.

Classroom Environment

  • Create a respectful, inclusive, and structured classroom culture rooted in dignity and compassion.
  • Maintain clear expectations for behavior and academic integrity.
  • Foster a love of reading, writing, critical thinking, and discussion.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to align curriculum and support student success.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and classroom activities.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.

Additional Duties

  • Serve as a homeroom teacher or advisor (if applicable).
  • Moderate extracurricular activities, clubs, or student organizations as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by school leadership.
