The Saint Matthew School 4th Grade Social Studies / ELA Teacher is responsible for developing students’ reading, writing, communication, research, and historical thinking skills. The teacher supports academic growth while fostering critical thinking, collaboration, and civic awareness.
Planning and Instructions:
• Plan, prepare and deliver age-appropriate art lessons aligned with Saint Matthew School and TN State curriculum standards.
• Provide grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and language instruction.
• Develop student writing skills (narrative, opinion, and informational writing).
• Teach Social Studies topics such as geography, history, government, economics, and culture.
• Integrate literacy skills into Social Studies instruction.
• Use differentiated instruction to support diverse learning needs.
• Establish a structured, respectful, and supportive classroom culture.
• Promote student engagement and collaboration.
• Implement classroom management strategies.
• Assess student learning through quizzes, projects, writing samples, and standardized-aligned assessments.
• Use instructional technology to support learning.
• Monitor academic progress and adjust instruction as needed.
• Utilize school-wide tracking and tech systems to collect, enter, and analyze students’ academic and behavioral data daily.
School-Based Duties and Faculty Engagement
• Enforce, uphold, and exhibit school’s values, student management policies, and culture systems.
• Participate in school events that occur outside of normal school hours, such as parent-teacher conferences, field trips, SSP meetings and open-house.
• Engage in ongoing Professional Development.
• Attend weekly faculty/staff meetings after school on Wednesdays from 3:00-4:00 p.m.
• Collaborate with grade level teams and specialists.
• Participate in curriculum planning meetings and professional development.
• Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or related field.
• Teaching certification/licensure.
• Must have authorization to work in the United States without requiring employer sponsorship.
