Position Summary
The Temporary IT Help Desk Technician provides frontline technical support for computer systems, hardware, software, and technology-related issues across City departments. This position assists the Information Technology Department with day-to-day support tasks including workstation setup, troubleshooting, user assistance, and basic technology installations.
The technician works under the direction of the Director of Information Technology and escalates more complex issues to senior IT staff when necessary.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide first-level help desk support for City employees experiencing computer or technology issues
- Troubleshoot and resolve common hardware, software, printer, and connectivity problems
- Install and configure desktop and laptop computers
- Assist with workstation deployments, replacements, and equipment moves
- Configure and support mobile devices, printers, and peripheral equipment
- Assist with user account setup and password resets
- Support Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft 365 applications
- Run and terminate network cables as needed for equipment installations
- Assist with installation and setup of security cameras and related equipment
- Assist with installation and basic support of door access control systems
- Document support requests and resolutions
- Escalate complex technical issues to IT staff or vendors as needed
- Assist with general IT projects and equipment installations
Experience:
Prior help desk or IT support experience preferred.
Education:
Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.
Technical Skills
- Microsoft Windows operating systems
- Microsoft 365 applications
- Basic networking concepts
- Computer hardware troubleshooting
- Basic cable installation and equipment setup experience preferred
- Strong customer service and communication skills
Working Conditions
Primarily office environment with occasional work in other City buildings. May require lifting computer equipment up to 30 pounds and walking between departments.
