Graphic Designer

The Graphic Designer is a creative contributor on the RMEF Creative Services team, responsible for bringing new ideas, original visual concepts, and high-quality design execution to a variety of multimedia projects. This role is not limited to production; it requires a proactive, collaborative mindset, strong conceptual thinking, and a passion for visual storytelling. Designers are expected to actively participate in creative development, offer fresh perspectives, and continuously raise the bar for RMEF’s brand expression across platforms.


Qualifications Include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of professional experience in graphic design and production; nonprofit experience is a plus.
  • Strong background in both print and digital design, including manual and digital prepress production.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Location: This position is based at RMEF’s Headquarters office in Missoula, Montana and requires fulltime on-site work. 


Essential Functions:

Design and Production 

  • Conceptualize and proactively contribute new visual concepts, layout ideas, and storytelling techniques to produce a range of impactful communication materials. 
  • Take creative ownership of assigned projects, bringing originality and brand alignment to all print, digital, and multimedia outputs.
  • Create digital graphics for web, email, and social media platforms to support RMEF’s online initiatives.
  • Design and produce materials for events, presentations, and campaigns.
  • Maintain RMEF’s corporate identity standards while producing creative, impactful work across multiple mediums.
  • Support multimedia projects, including tradeshow displays, banners, and exhibits, as needed.

Creative Collaboration 

  • Collaborate with the Creative Director and Senior Graphic Designer to understand project objectives, design parameters, as well as brand and strategy requirements.
  • Present design concepts and proofs for feedback and refinement.
  • Work alongside internal stakeholders, photographers, illustrators, and external vendors to bring creative projects to completion.

Prepress and File Preparation 

  • Produce publication-quality, print-ready files for a variety of printed materials, utilizing industry-standard prepress workflows.
  • Collect, organize, and prepare all necessary digital assets and supporting files for production.
  • Ensure technical accuracy and adherence to vendor specifications.

Research and Innovation 

  • Stay current on trends, tools, and technologies in design and production.
  • Continuously seek ways to enhance creativity, visual storytelling, and design effectiveness.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Create publication-quality illustrations based on individual skills and project needs.
  • Assist with photography, video production, or exhibit building as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the needs of the organization.

Supervision of Others:

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.


Education and Experience:

A bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or a related field is preferred. A minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience (not including internships) in graphic design and production; nonprofit experience is a plus. A strong background in both print and digital design, including manual and digital prepress production. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and support for RMEF’s mission, goals, brand, and programs.
  • Expertise in graphic design, typography, layout, and digital asset creation.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to produce accurate, print-ready files and adapt designs for digital formats.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly in proofing and file preparation.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with creative and marketing teams.
  • Knowledge of wildlife conservation and outdoor heritage topics is preferred but not required.
  • Skilled in basic construction techniques for exhibit and display production (preferred, not required).


Physical Demands:

This position will encounter mostly office conditions. Office work will require sitting or standing for long periods of time, frequent use of office equipment such as computers, light tables, scanner, photocopier, large format printer, binders, paper cutters, telephones, and faxes. Light and some heavy lifting, bending, and physical exertion may be required. Production of displays using hand tools and other appropriate materials may be needed. May require more than standard hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position. Some travel, including evening and weekend travel, may be required.
