General Lab Student Assistant will work independently or as a team member to help in the preparation of materials for classroom instruction within the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. The individual will be expected to become familiar with the use, maintenance and upkeep of scientific equipment and classrooms which will lead to a safe, effective and pleasant work environment.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Make solutions used in various instruction labs.
- Prepare microbiological media while utilizing sterile techniques.
- Use and maintain a variety of scientific equipment such as the autoclave and water filtering system.
- Periodically clean and perform minor repairs on a variety of microscope models.
- Maintain laboratory prep rooms, labs, and classrooms neat and operational.
- Follow appropriate safety protocol for handling chemicals, glassware, and spills.
- Maintain preserved specimens, learning models and microscope slides.
- Track and log Material Safety Data Sheets for chemicals.
- Care and maintenance of living organisms as needed.
- Follow safety rules to provide an environment conducive for working.
- Responsible for ensuring that assigned tasks are completed in compliance with various institutional and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain a professional and courteous attitude at all times towards co-workers, internal and external customers, representing Keuka College, its programs, policies, and procedures in a positive and professional manner. Maintain effective working relationships to ensure institution-wide teamwork.
- Attend provided/necessary training and other meetings to support effectiveness within the position as required.
- Consistently demonstrate high standards of integrity by supporting the Keuka College mission, vision, and values and adhering to institutional policies.
- Maintain a high regard for student privacy in accordance with the FERPA privacy policies and procedures.
- Regular and reliable attendance is expected and required.

- Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
• Keuka College student in the traditional on-campus undergraduate program.

• Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
