Lonestar Electric Supply is seeking a Service Operations Manager – Technical (Power Systems) to serve as the technical authority for a growing field service organization. This role is responsible for the technical execution, quality, and safety of all field service work, including startup, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical power distribution systems.
The Service Operations Manager – Technical will lead complex commissioning efforts, support critical energizations, and develop a team of technicians capable of delivering high-quality field service work. The ideal candidate is highly experienced in power systems, capable of making real-time technical decisions, and committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.
Responsibilities:
• Lead and oversee startup, commissioning, and testing of electrical power systems, including medium voltage switchgear, low voltage switchgear, switchboards, motor control centers (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), and protective relay systems.
• Serve as the final technical authority in the field, diagnosing and resolving complex system issues and making real-time decisions during energization.
• Support high-risk, high-visibility projects and provide technical leadership during critical field operations.
• Establish and enforce commissioning and testing standards aligned with InterNational Electrical Testing Association (NETA) and manufacturer requirements.
• Review and approve test procedures, commissioning plans, and field service reports to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Drive quality control efforts to reduce rework, callbacks, and field errors.
• Train and mentor Field Service Technicians and Senior Field Service Technicians through hands-on coaching and technical development.
• Assess technician performance and readiness for advancement.
• Support recruiting and hiring decisions for technical field service roles.
• Provide on-site and remote technical support for troubleshooting and escalated issues.
• Partner with customers, engineers, and contractors to resolve technical challenges.
• Ensure strict adherence to safety standards, including NFPA 70E, OSHA regulations, and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
• Promote a safety-first culture across all field service activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements:
• 8–12+ years of experience in electrical testing, commissioning, or field service within power systems.
• Strong hands-on experience with medium voltage and low voltage power distribution equipment.
• Proven ability to lead commissioning projects and troubleshoot complex electrical systems independently.
• Demonstrated ability to make sound technical decisions in field environments.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Willingness to travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience aligned with InterNational Electrical Testing Association (NETA) standards.
• NETA Certification (Level III or IV preferred).
• OEM training (ABB, Siemens, Eaton, Schneider).
• Journeyman or Master Electrician license.
• Experience mentoring or leading field service technicians.
Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in industrial and field environments.
• Ability to stand, walk, climb, and work in various jobsite conditions.
• Travel required, including overnight stays.
