The Interpreter Manager is responsible for leading the daily operations and overall performance of the Interpreting Department. This role oversees workflow, productivity, compliance, and service quality while ensuring alignment with MAIG’s mission, vision, and organizational standards.
This position plays a critical role in managing interpreter staff and contractors, optimizing service delivery, and maintaining high standards across all interpreting services.
Key ResponsibilitiesOperations & Team Management
- Oversee daily department operations, workflow, and productivity
- Manage interpreter staff and independent contractors, including scheduling, coverage, and performance oversight
- Maintain employee communication logs and ensure consistent team communication
- Lead recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding of interpreters
- Conduct performance evaluations, observations, and provide ongoing feedback
- Develop and manage employee recognition and mentoring programs
Compliance & Process Improvement
- Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and industry standards
- Develop, document, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Monitor productivity metrics, utilization, and service quality
- Support audit readiness and compliance requirements, particularly within government contracts
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with clients and internal teams to resolve service issues
- Proactively engage customers and stakeholders to enhance service delivery
- Represent MAIG at community events, meetings, and professional engagements
Program & Service Development
- Oversee interpreter training, onboarding materials, and professional development initiatives
- Plan and manage workshops, mentoring programs, and sponsorship opportunities
- Support performance interpreting services, including recruitment, rate negotiation, and event coordination
- Assist with proposals, bids, and contract-related activities
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- RID Certification
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in ASL interpreting or Deaf services
- Minimum of 3 years of experience managing interpreters or similar workforce
Preferred:
- Experience with Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) and on-site services
- Experience working with government contracts or regulated environments
- Familiarity with Service Level Agreements (SLAs), reporting, and compliance standards
Key Skills & Expertise
- Strong knowledge of ASL interpreting standards, ethics, and Deaf culture
- Experience managing contractor (1099) workforces and complex scheduling
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, coverage gaps, and high-demand environments
- Data tracking, reporting, and performance management
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience with accessibility technologies (VRI, captioning tools)
- Budget management or P&L experience (preferred)
- Experience supporting RFPs and contract renewals (preferred)
