Job Summary

The Barista is responsible for creating a welcoming café experience by preparing and serving high-quality coffee, beverages, and light food items while delivering exceptional customer service. Located adjacent to our retail pharmacy, the café serves patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and members of the community. This role plays an important part in creating a comfortable and inviting environment for every guest.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Welcome customers with a friendly, professional attitude and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Accurately take food and beverage orders and process customer transactions.
  • Prepare and serve coffee, espresso-based beverages, tea, smoothies, and other specialty drinks according to established recipes and quality standards.
  • Prepare and serve light food items, including soups, sandwiches, pastries, and other café offerings.
  • Answer customer questions regarding menu items and make thoughtful recommendations based on customer preferences.
  • Promote featured beverages, seasonal offerings, and café menu items to enhance the customer experience.
  • Maintain inventory of café supplies, including coffee beans, milk, syrups, cups, lids, napkins, and food products, and communicate replenishment needs.
  • Clean, maintain, and perform routine care of espresso machines, coffee brewers, grinders, and other café equipment; coordinate repairs when needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary café, food preparation area, and customer seating area in accordance with food safety standards.
  • Address customer concerns professionally and resolve issues promptly to ensure a positive experience.
  • Assist with merchandising, menu updates, and promotional displays to attract new and returning customers.
  • Identify opportunities to improve café operations, service quality, and workflow efficiency.
  • Perform opening, closing, and daily operational procedures.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and company policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous customer service experience required; café, coffee shop, restaurant, or hospitality experience preferred.
  • Friendly, outgoing personality with a passion for serving others.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Basic math skills and experience handling cash or point-of-sale (POS) systems.
  • Dependable with a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
  • Availability to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous barista experience.
  • Knowledge of espresso preparation and specialty coffee beverages.
  • Food Handler Certification or the ability to obtain one upon hire.
  • Experience with inventory management and product merchandising.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, reach, and perform repetitive motions while preparing beverages and food items.
  • Ability to safely operate coffee equipment and food preparation tools.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining excellent customer service.
