Under direction of the Reference and Information Services Manager, supervises and provides technical services for Central Library’s OneNorth Computer Lab in a welcoming, patron-focused environment that provides a high-quality library experience promoting functionality and learning.
This is a full-time, exempt position with a starting salary of $53,910, plus excellent benefits.

Monday - Friday: 8:30 am - 5 pm
Note: This may include adjusting or augmenting own schedule to ensure adequate coverage.

Job Duties (Essential Duties)
- Selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates OneNorth staff. Organizes, assigns, and reviews work. Conveys information to staff and relays staff concerns to administration.
- Serves on Central Library's supervision team focusing on the daily operation of the Central Library.
- Ensures adequate staff coverage. This may include adjusting or augmenting own schedule if other staff cannot be found to provide coverage.
- Develops, recommends, monitors and evaluates policies and procedures to ensure efficient computer lab operations and quality customer service.
- Creates a welcoming environment by leading staff in excellent customer service and ensuring a clean and well-supplied space. Creates positive patron experiences.
- Partners and cooperates with other departments and library locations to develop and implement effective services, programs, and procedures.
- Assists patrons in using and troubleshooting Library technology with regularly scheduled desk hours. Guides staff in offering the same services.
- Maintains and supervises chargeable technology. Currently this includes hotspots, charging devices, and external USB drives.
- Maintains records of services and Computer Lab usage for assessment and planning.
- Keeps current on computer technology to make informed recommendations regarding improvements / upgrades in computer equipment and software in the Computer Lab.
- Other duties as assigned and assists with projects.
- Ability to communicate effectively, especially in one-on-one instruction.
- Ability to explain technical issues clearly and concisely.
- Self-motivated to supervise activities in the Computer Lab.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to work in a dynamic and challenging environment with a diverse population.
- Ability to analyze and troubleshoot technical problems.
- Ability to quickly learn new software and applications, including but not limited to library software and databases.
- Ability to understand, speak, and communicate clearly and concisely in English is required. Additional consideration will be given to individuals that are proficient in any non-English languages utilized in Jackson County, MO, including Spanish, American Sign Language, Vietnamese, French, Arabic, and Swahili.
Required Education and Experience
- At least 3 years of customer service experience, with BA/certification in relevant field.
- Experience in working with Microsoft Office, multimedia applications, and troubleshooting technical problems.
- Experience working with a diverse population.
- Minimum qualifications can be met with equivalent combination of educations and related experience.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in a supervisory or management position.
- Experience in an educational or library setting.
Work Environment
Work is performed at the assigned Central Library. Work may be performed in an office environment, primarily work will be performed in a public space amongst staff and patrons from a diverse socio-economic community.
