MAPC has an opening for a full time (40hr/week) Naval Architect, or a Mechanical Engineer with a strong background and interest in unique vessel and ship system designs. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, real-world operational experience in a wide variety of vessel types and will be capable of leadership roles in a multi-disciplinary project team.

Technical work efforts for this position are primarily focused on outfitting and arrangements for a unique undersea vessel. Layouts and trade studies, including the effects of weight and strength performance calculations, will be performed on designs comprised of materials ranging from conventional materials to high performance thermoplastics. Work will include the integration of systems and components from COTS and modified COTS hardware to fully custom parts and assemblies. Real-World Human-Machine Interface (HMI) considerations will require consistent consideration for system operations in a challenging environment. Work on this program is planned from concept design through detailed design, prototype fabrication, testing, and production over the course of this program. BlackSea is seeking a candidate who has experience, existing knowledge, and skills to support these tasks, as well as curiosity and an interest in solving novel problems.

Salary Range: $52.00 - $75.00

Travel: Yes, up to 3 trips a year

Team leadership tasks for this position include:

1. Assisting in the leadership of a cross-functional Integrated Product Team responsible for designing and building a portion of an undersea vessel

2. Confidently providing technical leadership, oversight, and work output to the Team

3. Establishing and performing to cost and schedule metrics

4. Business and proposal development

5. Seeking opportunities to further develop projects

Requirements

  

Requirements

· A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, and/or Ocean Engineering from an ABET-accredited school

· 6-15 years of relevant experience, including significant experience on multiple types of vessels. 

- Experience using 3D design tools, including Finite Element Analysis

· Experience working in Integrated Product Teams

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· The ability to board and traverse boats and ships

Desired Skills and Experience

· Experience using SolidWorks and related tools for design and FEA stress analysis

· Experience designing components using PEEK or other high-performance thermoplastics

· Experience leading Integrated Product Teams

· Strong capabilities using Microsoft Office tools

· Past shipboard or shipyard / repair facility assignment, as a civilian or in conjunction with US military service

· An existing security clearance

· Experience in the study of hydrodynamics, including resistance, maneuvering, and seakeeping considerations.

· Experience with both commercial and Naval standards and software
