Description

We are seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our engineering team. In this

role, you will split your time between 3D part and assembly modeling in SolidWorks, and active

participation in hands-on lab and shop work alongside our engineering team. This internship is

designed to give you a well-rounded experience — from digital design to the physical build — and

an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world engineering challenges.

Requirements

CAD & Design

• Create 3D part models and assemblies in SolidWorks based on engineering sketches,

drawings, or specifications.

• Develop and maintain 2D engineering drawings with proper annotations and revision history.

• Perform design iterations and revisions based on feedback from senior engineers.

• Maintain organized CAD file structures in accordance with department standards.

Hands-On & Shop Work

• Assist with the assembly, fitting, and testing of physical prototypes and mechanical systems.

• Support the fabrication team in building, modifying, and inspecting parts and assemblies.

• Conduct basic measurements, functional tests, and inspections to verify parts meet design

intent.

• Operate standard shop equipment and hand tools under the supervision of senior

engineers.

General

• Participate in design review meetings and team stand-ups.

• Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and product development teams.

• Document findings, design changes, and test results clearly and accurately.

Required Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in an accredited Mechanical Engineering (or closely related) bachelor’s

degree program.

• Completed at least one year of relevant coursework (sophomore standing or above

preferred).

• Working knowledge of SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD software, demonstrated through

coursework or projects.

• Comfortable working in a shop or lab environment and willing to perform hands-on tasks.

• Basic understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical specifications accurately.

• Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

• SolidWorks Associate (CSWA) certification or equivalent CAD experience.

• Prior experience in a shop, lab, or maker environment (personal projects count!).

• Familiarity with hand tools and measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers.

• Exposure to 3D printing, rapid prototyping, or light fabrication.

• Knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing standards.

• Prior internship or co-op experience in a manufacturing or product development setting.
