Water Technical Assistant
Description

The Water Technician Assistant supports the operation, maintenance, and repair of greenhouse irrigation, filtration, and water treatment systems. This role works closely with Water Tech Specialist and other facility staff to ensure consistent water quality, system reliability, and overall greenhouse performance. The position involves hands-on work in varying environmental conditions and requires attention to detail, mechanical awareness, and teamwork.


Work Environment

This position is primarily based in the greenhouse and utility areas where irrigation, filtration, and water treatment systems are located.

  • The environment can be hot and humid inside the greenhouse, hot outdoors during roof washing or pump repairs, and cold during outdoor winter maintenance.
  • Work may occasionally involve considerable heights both inside and outside the greenhouse.
  • The ability to lift moderately heavy items, such as pumps and tools, is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with monitoring irrigation tanks, filter stations, and pump systems for proper pressure, flow, and water quality.
  • Help correct tank levels and maintain system balance.
  • Ex: Day storage tanks, fertilizer tanks, etc..
  • Support replacement and calibration of pH and EC sensors.
  • Clean strainers and replace filter screens as directed.
  • Stage tools, materials, and equipment for planned maintenance and repairs.
  • Assist with mechanical and plumbing repairs (e.g., pumps, broken lines).
  • Change greenhouse emitters and assist with dripper flush procedures.
  • Support LED leak and screen cable repairs when applicable.
  • Wash greenhouse roofs to maintain light transmission and reduce buildup.
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks under supervision.
  • Assist in troubleshooting system alarms, including electrical, mechanical, or control-related issues.
  • Participate in on-call rotation as scheduled.
  • Support 5S workplace organization and cleanliness standards.
  • Safely operate lifts and other assigned equipment.
  • Record and document all necessary daily readings on spreadsheets accurately.
  • Perform cleaning of climate sidewall coils, climate hallway coils, chiller coils, and heat destroyer coils as needed.
  • Utilize the CMMS program to document and complete work orders and assist with ongoing projects as assigned.
  • Perform heat exchanger cleaning as needed to maintain proper temperature delta across the system’s heating and cooling units.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Basic mechanical, plumbing, or technical experience preferred.
  • Ability to read gauges, graphs, and digital displays.
  • Comfortable working in variable temperature and humidity conditions.
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and working at heights.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
  • Willingness to learn and grow within a technical team environment.
