Job Summary: Under the direction of the Consumer Loan Manager, the Consumer Loan Originator will work with members and applicants to process loan applications.
Essential Functions:
- Effectively manage relevant Consumer Loan Originator queues to keep applications worked in a timely and thorough manner.
- Provide members and applicants with updates to loan application status as relevant. Ability to effectively communicate the loan documentation required.
- Upload loan documents to loan application.
- Ability to conduct a thorough and inclusive loan interview. Ability to clearly communicate the loan request details to the Consumer Loan Underwriter and/or Consumer Loan Funder as needed.
- Ability to effectively communicate the loan decision to the applicant and advise them how to improve their credit score for future requests when applicable.
- Accurately input the applicant’s information in the consumer loan application.
- Skilled in determining collateral value for secured loans.
- Answer phone calls, emails, faxes, video chats, and text messages from applicants/staff in a timely manner.
- Ability to confidently assess applicant needs and match ancillary products and/or services to those needs.
- Ability to review credit reports, applicable ratios (debt-to-income, loan-to-value, unsecure debt ratio), and other supporting documentation.
- Ability to read and fully comprehend a credit report.
- Thorough knowledge of our ancillary products and services.
- Meet or exceed ancillary product sales requirements.
- Ability to thoroughly review credit reports and identify possible loans for opportunity of recapture and determine tradelines that should or should not be included in the debt-to-income ratio.
- Ability to accurately calculate sales tax, title, and registration fees when needed.
- Ability to verify income statements.
- Ability to review payoff statements and add additional daily per diem as needed.
- Maintain open line of communication with teammates to ensure all detailed information is shared.
- Ability to identify signs of fraud.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent.
Job Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge:
- Skilled in strong sales with the ability to communicate, present, and influence applicants on the benefits of our ancillary products as appropriate.
- Ability to work under pressure to provide quick service to members and applicants, while maintaining accuracy. Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills. Skilled in the loan interview process and effective listening to provide superb service and exceed members’ needs.
- Skilled in technology with the ability to quickly navigate applicable lending software and virtual/digital work. Ability to work in a paperless environment. Ability to work with confidence in multiple software applications simultaneously. Possess the ability to incorporate existing or available technologies to help automate certain processes.
- Skilled in both verbal and written communications, able to correspond with members and vendors with professionalism. Must have a broad knowledge and understanding of credit union loan policies and procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from members and applicants. Ability to communicate at all levels in the organization. This includes proper phone etiquette.
- Ability to work independently, as well as contributing to a team, in a fast-paced environment. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form.
- Comprehensive understanding of annual percentage rate, amortization schedules, and simple interest calculations.
- Successful completion of REG B and REG Z courses.
Mental & Physical Requirements: Requires sitting 6-8 hours a day; Stress related to managing application volume. Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include weekends and occasional after hours as necessary. Saturday hours are required on rotation.
