Position Overview
Employees of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church are ministers and accept as part of their terms of employment and ministerial responsibility to be part of our community and support parish life.
The Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry will assist the parish’s effort in ministry for young people; aid parents in their role as primary catechists, help to facilitate other experiences that develop student’s love for Christ and desire to grow in their faith. The Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry helps to integrate a love for Jesus and understanding of our faith into a comprehensive ministry for the youth of the parish through Jr High and High School meetings, sacramental preparation for Confirmation, and other activities such as retreats, camps, and conferences which we see essential to good youth/young adult ministry. The Y&YA Coordinator will assist and plan in community-building opportunities; and connect Young Catholic Adults in the community (ages 18-39) by offering opportunities for spiritual development, organizing social events, and offering ways to serve within the community
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Developing, organizing, and implementing a Middle School, a High School, and a Young Adult Ministry; including but not limited to social events, small groups, camps, retreats, summer conferences, and activities.
- Being familiar and trained (by the parish) in Evangelical Catholic practices of disciple-making.
- Focus on St Charles Academy (SCBA) Campus Ministry Events; including, but not limited to retreats, Mass, Adoration, and other collaborative parish/SCBA sponsored events.
- Assist in collaboration with Faith Formation staff and ministry volunteers regarding overall catechesis and parish life.
- Help to assist, support, and organize age-appropriate opportunities for Service and Social Outreach.
- Plan and implement our Confirmation Preparation small groups.
- Recruit and be involved in a youth leadership team as well as a young adult leadership team responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating effective integral ministry programs.
- Assist in updating youth & young adult ministries social media communication efforts for teen outreach, promotion of youth ministry programs and to be a positive, Christ-like presence on social media platforms.
- Office skills necessary to manage require record keeping, including but not limited to, catechists’ training, Safe Environment, sacramental preparation, and parish information.
- In consultation with the Pastor, assist with sacramental rites and worship services for Middle/High School in connection with Confirmation as students prepare for full initiation in the Catholic Church.
- Collaborate/assist/attend parish wide activities and staff events, sacramental celebrations, and designated Sunday/weekends to facilitate and support parish life, to recruit catechists and other ministry volunteers.
- Attend meetings or workshops with other deanery and diocesan groups for youth and young adults.
- Any other tasks assigned by supervisor.
The Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry must:
- Be a practicing Catholic.
- Be familiar with youth culture and experiential ministry.
- Be personable, collaborative, and flexible.
- Have excellent interpersonal skills
- Must be approachable, welcoming, and open to building relationships throughout St. Charles Parish and School communities.
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Have catechetical experience.
- Bachelor’s degree, working toward a degree in ministry or related field preferred.
- Have the energy and enthusiasm to engage with youth and young adults.
- Have basic knowledge of Catholic theology (Youth Ministry Certification from Diocese of San Diego preferred)
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to be in an office at a computer workstation and access information from a computer and use a telephone. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the pastoral center, as well as maneuver throughout the facility to attend meetings, briefings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend meetings or events. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
