PURPOSE:

 The Kitchen Director provides leadership and oversight for food service operations at multiple kitchens across Switchpoint. This role ensures residents and clients receive safe, high-quality, and nutritious meals every day, including the coordination of daily meal production for shelters throughout the Salt Lake City region. The Director supervises and develops kitchen staff, collaborates with site management to align services with program needs, and upholds strict health and safety standards. Beyond daily operations, the position is instrumental in shaping the future of Switchpoint’s food services by driving innovative strategies—including revenue-generating initiatives—that expand impact and strengthen long-term sustainability.  

Requirements

 

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Develops procedures to ensure the food production system provides safe nutritious food of high quality. 
  • Ensures operational procedures for efficient and effective food production and distribution. 
  • Order materials, supplies, and ingredients from established sources based on demand and availability.  
  • Supervise kitchen operations during shift and train other staff for kitchen supervision.  
  • Plan menu based on nutrition guidelines, treatment center needs, and availability of supplies.  
  • Ensure residents’ food allergies are known and safely supported.  
  • Oversee the food preparation and cooking process.  
  • Monitor inventory levels and perform weekly inventory assessments.  
  • Ensure the organization and sanitation of the kitchen, serving area, and dining room.  
  • Receive and store all food products in compliance with health and safety regulations.  
  • Ensure food security and proper security of potentially harmful equipment and chemicals.  
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and inventory of freezers/refrigerators and pantry storage.  
  • Maintain a monthly menu.  
  • Collaborate with treatment center staff to ensure meals are delivered in a way that supports programming needs.  
  • Ensure foodservice-related equipment is kept in good working order and is regularly maintained.  
  • Other Duties as Assigned.

Specialized Responsibilities 

  • Direct daily operations at each site, ensuring timely preparation and delivery of meals. 
  • Provide oversight for staff producing daily meals for shelters in the Salt Lake City region. 
  • Collaborate with site management to coordinate meal distribution, align kitchen operations with shelter programming, and ensure smooth service delivery. 
  • Develop and implement innovative revenue strategies
  • Build partnerships with staff, vendors, and community partners

Recordkeeping and Reporting:  

  • Report critical incident(s) immediately to Senior Manager - Human Services.  
  • Collects data necessary to meet funding requirements and statistical reports.  

Requirements:  

  • ServSafe Restaurant Management certification is required.  
  • In-depth knowledge of kitchen health and safety regulations.  
  • Ability to work well in a stressful and fast-paced environment.  
  • Excellent problem-solving and conflict management abilities.  
  • Outstanding communication and organizational skills.

Compensation 

Starting Salary at $55,000 annually
