Position Summary:
The BAS Construction Technician is responsible for the installation, wiring, and commissioning support of building automation and control systems in commercial and industrial facilities. This position works under the supervision of a Project Manager or Field Supervisor to ensure all installations meet company standards, project specifications, and safety requirements. The BAS Construction Technician plays an essential role in delivering high-quality installations that support energy-efficient and reliable building operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Install and wire controllers, sensors, actuators, and related field devices for building automation systems (BAS).
- Read and interpret electrical and control system blueprints, diagrams, and specifications.
- Route and terminate control wiring and network cabling according to standards and project requirements.
- Assist in mounting control panels, enclosures, and field devices.
- Support the integration and commissioning of HVAC and building automation systems under supervision.
- Perform continuity and voltage checks to verify system functionality and proper operation.
- Document installation progress and update redline drawings for as-built submittals.
- Follow all company and site-specific safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain tools, materials, and test equipment in good working condition.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, and field supervisors to resolve installation issues.
- Assist in troubleshooting and startup of BAS systems.
- Ensure work is completed on time, accurately, and to NRG Controls’ quality standards.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in electrical, HVAC, or building automation installation.
- Strong understanding of basic electrical and control principles.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools related to electrical and low-voltage work.
- Knowledge of basic computer and network systems.
- Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to all company safety procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Technical training or certification in Building Automation Systems, HVAC controls, or electrical installation.
- Experience with systems such as Tridium Niagara, Distech, Honeywell, or Johnson Controls.
- Familiarity with control system commissioning and startup processes.
- OSHA 10- or 30-hour safety certification.
- Previous experience working in commercial construction environments.
