Position Summary
Laramie Montessori Charter School is seeking a dedicated PK–6 Art Teacher to nurture creativity, self-expression, cultural awareness, and artistic confidence through an authentic Montessori environment. This educator will guide students in developing artistic skills, appreciation for diverse cultures and artistic traditions, and creative problem-solving while honoring the developmental needs of children across Primary, Lower Elementary, and Upper Elementary levels. The Art Teacher will create a prepared environment that supports exploration, hands-on creation, artistic technique, and joyful learning while aligning instruction with Montessori philosophy, Wyoming State Standards, and the mission of supporting the whole child.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
- Plans and prepares engaging PK–6 art instruction aligned with Montessori philosophy, Wyoming State Standards, and school goals.
- Creates and maintains a safe, organized, inspiring, and developmentally appropriate art environment.
- Provides lessons in visual arts, drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, design, art history, and cultural art traditions.
- Integrates art with cultural studies, peace education, geography, history, science, and global awareness when appropriate.
- Encourages creativity, independence, observation, and self-expression.
- Supports fine motor development, artistic technique, and creative confidence.
- Differentiates instruction to meet the developmental and learning needs of diverse students.
- Uses observation and assessment to guide student growth and artistic development.
- Organizes displays, showcases, or exhibitions of student work as appropriate.
- Maintains classroom materials, tools, and equipment responsibly.
- Supports peaceful classroom management aligned with Montessori and school-wide expectations.
- Builds positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
- Communicates student progress and program information professionally.
- Collaborates with classroom teachers to support integrated learning opportunities.
- Participates in staff meetings, school events, professional development, and conferences.
- Maintains confidentiality and follows school, district, state, and federal policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required
- Strong understanding of elementary art education, child development, and developmentally appropriate practice.
- Knowledge of artistic techniques, visual design, creative processes, and art history.
- Ability to inspire creativity, confidence, and joyful artistic exploration.
- Ability to manage a multi-age learning environment effectively.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn Montessori philosophy and practices.
- Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to integrate art into broader educational experiences.
- Proficiency with educational tools and technology that support art instruction.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and respect for all students.
Physical Abilities and Working Conditions
This position may require standing, bending, kneeling, lifting art supplies or classroom materials, sitting on the floor, demonstrating artistic techniques, and supervising children indoors and outdoors. The Art Teacher must be able to maintain an energetic, calm, and positive presence while working in a dynamic school environment.

Entry Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree required
Certification: Valid Wyoming Teaching Certificate with Art endorsement or ability to obtain appropriate certification
Background Check: Must complete and clear all required background checks
Experience: Previous experience in elementary, art, Montessori, charter, or multi-age educational settings preferred
