Purpose of the Position

Coordinates an organization's quality, security, and maintenance of data. Defines data elements and establishes policies and procedures related to the collection and accuracy of data and performs tests on data systems. Ensures sufficient data quality is maintained so that the data can effectively support the business process. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project.


Key Responsibilities

  • Detective Work: Conduct "ride-along" with and interview departmental staff to map the "as-is" journey of a data point from entry to storage.
  • Curation: Take ownership of the Business Glossary, ensuring that every term used by the business is defined, tagged, and linked to the correct technical asset.
  • Metadata Health: Audit the Silver layer to ensure that ingestion is not just "moving data," but is capturing the metadata required for lineage and trust.
  • SQL Profiling: Use SQL to verify that the data matches the "Detective" findings—if a user says a field is "optional" but the data shows it is always populated, you find out why.


Requirements

Education and Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited university with a major in Engineering, Computer Science, or another technical field, or in lieu of education, four or more years applied experience working in Data Center Operations, Data Control or Quality or as a Data Steward or Data Governance Specialist.
  • Plus:
  • Four (4) or more years of experience working in Data Center Operations, Data Control or Quality or as a Data Steward or Data Governance Specialist. 
  • In addition to the above Education and Experience, the following experience or skills are required:
  • Solid understanding of principles, practices, theories, and/or methodologies associated with data stewardship.
  • 1-3 years of experience; strong SQL skills; a background in Business Analysis or Technical Writing.
  • Applicants for this position must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States and with Habemco (e.g., H1-B visa, F-1 visa (STEM/OPT), TN visa.)
  • All offers are contingent upon successfully passing a third-party drug screen and background check, which may include, but is not limited to, previous employment, education, criminal, and credit checks. Preferred

  • Three (3) or more years performing Data Steward activities such as those outlined above in a FinTech or Banking industry. 
  • Experience with Lucid chart/Visio; familiarity with the Medallion architecture.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods in a stationary seated position, such as working on a computer.
