We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and community-focused Volunteer Coordinator to lead and grow our volunteer program. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about building meaningful relationships, engaging community members in purposeful service, and supporting patients and families through some of life’s most important moments.


As a key member of our hospice and community care team, the Volunteer Coordinator will recruit, train, support, and inspire volunteers who make a lasting impact every day.


Build Community Connections

  • Develop creative strategies to recruit and engage volunteers throughout the community
  • Foster partnerships with schools, civic organizations, faith communities, and local businesses
  • Represent Granite VNA at volunteer fairs, community events, and outreach opportunities
  • Share the mission and impact of hospice and home health services with prospective volunteers

Train and Support Compassionate Volunteers

  • Lead volunteer orientation and ongoing education programs
  • Prepare volunteers to provide meaningful support through training in:
    • Hospice philosophy and end-of-life care
    • HIPAA and patient confidentiality
    • Communication and professional boundaries
    • Grief and bereavement awareness
  • Coordinate onboarding requirements including background checks and health clearances

Coordinate Meaningful Volunteer Experiences

  • Match volunteers with opportunities aligned with their interests, strengths, and availability
  • Coordinate volunteer support in areas such as:
    • Patient companionship
    • Family respite care
    • Bereavement support
    • Administrative assistance
    • Hospice house support
    • Community events and fundraising initiatives
  • Maintain schedules, assignments, and volunteer records

Support Hospice Excellence & Compliance

  • Monitor volunteer participation to ensure compliance with CMS hospice requirements, including the 5% volunteer service expectation
  • Maintain accurate training, assignment, and hour documentation
  • Collaborate with hospice leadership and interdisciplinary care teams to align volunteer services with patient and family needs

Foster a Positive Volunteer Culture

  • Provide ongoing mentorship, communication, and encouragement to volunteers
  • Recognize and celebrate volunteer contributions through appreciation and engagement activities
  • Address concerns with professionalism, empathy, and support
  • Continuously evaluate and strengthen the volunteer experience

 What We’re Looking For

  • Passion for community engagement and compassionate care
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to organize, coordinate, and motivate diverse groups of volunteers
  • Comfort working collaboratively within interdisciplinary healthcare teams
  • Experience in volunteer management, nonprofit work, healthcare, hospice, or community outreach preferred

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

  1. Associate’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  2. 1–2 years administrative support experience preferred.
  3. Experience in healthcare, nonprofit organizations, or volunteer programs preferred.
