About the Role:
The Business Development Specialist plays a pivotal role in shaping MED-EL's growth by developing and executing strategies that align with our mission, goals, and selling philosophy; with a primary focus on expanding the MVP Network. This role drives new business opportunities, forges strategic partnerships, and leads clinic onboarding and clinical enablement initiatives to broaden market access, accelerate referral growth, and increase adoption of MED-EL hearing solutions. This position requires extensive travel.
Location: Home office based in Chicago, IL or Detroit, MI.
Primary Responsibilities:
Business Development & Network Growth
- Develop and execute territory-level strategies to recruit and expand the MVP Network within assigned markets.
- Identify, prospect, and build a pipeline of new MVP partners.
- Drive new business opportunities that increase MED-EL market penetration and referral growth.
- Build and maintain relationships with private practices, CI centers, surgeons, and other key stakeholders.
- Support and execute strategic partnership initiatives, including collaboration with hearing aid partners (e.g., Starkey).
MVP Clinic Onboarding & Activation
- Lead onboarding and activation of MVP clinics, including implementation of referral workflows and operational processes.
- Guide clinics through MVP participation pathways and ensure successful integration into the network.
- Drive clinics from initial meetings through onboarding to active referral generation.
Clinical Enablement, Training & Education
- Provide training and education to MVP clinics on cochlear implant candidacy, evaluation workflows, patient counseling, and referral processes.
- Partner with internal Education teams to support delivery of MVP Foundations training and ongoing educational initiatives.
- Ensure clinics are equipped to independently identify candidates and integrate cochlear implant services into their practice.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the causes and types of hearing loss, audiologic and otologic evaluation techniques and general treatment options.
- Demonstrate clinical competency in implant candidacy, evaluation protocols, and programming workflows to effectively support MVP clinics.
Clinical & Product Support
- Provide clinical and product support to MVP clinics, including cochlear implant programming guidance, troubleshooting, workflow integration, and application of clinical best practices.
- Support cases to build clinician confidence and ensure successful patient outcomes.
- Reinforce best practices that enable long-term clinical independence while reducing ongoing dependency.
- Balance clinical and programming support responsibilities with business development priorities to ensure continued growth of the MVP Network.
Position Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or greater in Audiology or equivalent
- Willingness to travel >50% in region.
- Familiarity with reporting and CRM database maintenance
- Ability to stay current on company policies and procedures.
- Located in, or willing to relocate to, Detroit, MI or Chicago, IL.
Additional value-added assets:
- 1-3 years of experience in sales, business development, clinical audiology, cochlear implants or healthcare industry roles preferred
- Experience supporting clinical workflows and/or provider partnerships preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with MED-EL products and services
- Experience in industry or similar industry
