Armed Security Officer

Job Summary:
The Security Officer is responsible for conducting security patrols and monitoring school premises to prevent and respond to security incidents. This role includes securing the campus and personnel, maintaining a positive and professional demeanor, assisting with traffic control, and logging all observations accurately.
This position is the second of a two-officer team. The primary schedule is Monday through Friday, 1:30 pm - 5:30 pm. There are opportunities for additional site work, and there are summer hours as well.
Job Responsibilities:
- Conducting security patrols and monitoring premises to prevent and respond to security incidents.
- When faced with a threat, be capable of choosing the appropriate and legal level of force necessary to preserve the life and safety of our clients.
- Secure campus and personnel by patrolling campus, including buildings, parking lots, and athletic fields, as well as inspecting buildings and access points
- Maintain a positive and courteous demeanor, and communicate with others in a professional and respectful manner.
- Assist with daily carpool and traffic control.
- Accompany personnel and students between buildings and parking lots - upon request.
- Formally log all observations, occurrences, and surveillance activities in a timely and accurate manner.
- Politely direct campus guests to appropriate log-in points and professionally notify unwanted visitors to leave the campus grounds.
Preferred Candidate Qualities:
- Four years or more of law enforcement experience.
- Four years or more of military experience.
- Four years or more of school security/SRO experience.
- First Aid, CPR, and AED trained.
Minimum Standards:
- Current Tennessee Armed Officer License.
- Completed an approved TN Active Shooter course.
- Pass Serva’s Physical Fitness Test.
- Demonstrable Firearms Skill and Training.
- Willing to put yourself in harm’s way for others.
- Must pass the TBI criminal background check required to work in educational facilities with children present.
- Be able to comply with the eligibility to work in the United States via a Federal E-Verify check.
Physical Requirements:
- Be able to do 50 push-ups, then 50 sit-ups (or a 70-second plank), and 50 bodyweight squats in less than 8 minutes.
- Work will be indoor and outdoor and require long periods of movement and activity.
- Employment typically requires standing, walking, and working in noisy environments.
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs.
- Carries firearms and other required security items at all times.
