Description

The Park Specialist - Part Time position is responsible for assisting with the daily management of park and facility maintenance operations for all parks and facilities. In addition, the position will provide maintenance or special assistance to other departments throughout the year.

  

Essential Duties

  1. Communicate operation specifics to the Superintendent of Park and Facility Maintenance and Park Maintenance Manager in a timely manner.
  2. Complete assigned reports, projects and research studies, attend staff meetings, safety and educational training, and remain informed of current trends and issues in related areas of responsibility.
  3. Implement customer service procedures as applicable to the position’s operation.
  4. Provide productive and efficient labor to any crew assigned by implementing an effective daily work schedule to efficiently complete park and facility maintenance operations.
  5. Implement approved annual goals and objectives for position-specific operations per Park District procedures.
  6. Implement park capital equipment repairs, replacements, and improvements per Park District plan as assigned.
  7. Adhere to park and facility maintenance management procedures as applicable to the position’s operation.
  8. Train and supervise seasonal staff to provide and maintain high quality and safe parks and facilities.
  9. Implement all park and facility maintenance procedures and special events as assigned. 
  10. Adhere to all fleet management procedures. Assist with the maintenance for all Park District vehicles, machinery and/or mechanized equipment, including record keeping and repairs.
  11. Adhere to financial management procedures as applicable to the position’s operation, including purchasing, reviewing transactions for accuracy, and processing invoices and receipts.
  12. Assist with approved Park District-wide snow and ice removal maintenance system.
  13. Assist with approved Park District-wide herbicide application maintenance system.
  14. Assist with approved Park District-wide turf maintenance system.
  15. Assist with approved Park District-wide tree maintenance management system.
  16. Adhere to public relations procedures as applicable to the position’s operation. Develop and maintain effective internal and external public relations with staff, the community, vendors, and other agencies through oral and written communication.
  17. Assist with Park District-wide trash collection, scavenger, and recycling management system.
  18. Provide professional representation of the Park District at local meetings, state and national functions.
  19. Adhere to safety and risk management procedures as applicable to the position’s operation.
  20. Participate in the safety and risk management training program within department operation. Participation includes assistance administering the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) Program, becoming familiar with the Employee Safety Handbook and the safe operation of all equipment required to complete daily assignments.
  21. Responsible to notify supervisor of any work-related injury and any other injury, illness and health information required by the Park District in its effort to assign tasks within an individual’s capacity to prevent potential injury or illness.
  22. Perform other duties as assigned.


Schedule

  • Approximately 20 hours per week

Requirements

Education:  A high school diploma or GED equivalent, associate’s degree in related field preferred.

 

Experience:  Minimum of one (1) year related experience.

 

Certifications:  Certifications in   parks maintenance or related areas are desirable. Ability to obtain an Illinois Secretary of State Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brake endorsement & Illinois Department of Agriculture pesticide operator   license within 90 days after employment is required.

Salary Description
Starting at $23.91 per hour
