At the Bloomington-Normal YMCA, our Water Safety Swim Instructors do way more than teach strokes. They build confidence, create relationships, and help save lives through water safety education.

• Must enjoy getting splashed on a daily basis 
• Ability to stay positive even when goggles mysteriously disappear every 3 minutes 
• Comfortable singing songs, giving high-fives, and celebrating tiny victories like they’re Olympic medals 
• Must be able to turn nervous swimmers into confident little sharks  
• Ability to communicate with kids, parents, and teammates with kindness and energy 
• Must understand that “watch this!” is usually followed by something unexpected 
• Ability to multitask while holding kickboards, noodles, and a conversation all at once 
• Comfortable spending long periods in and around water 
• Must bring good vibes, patience, and team spirit every shift 
• Ability to make learning fun while keeping safety the #1 priority 
• Must be dependable swimmers count on you! 
• Lifeguard/Swim Instructor certifications are awesome, but we can help train the right person 
• Bonus points if you can survive listening to Baby Shark for the 47th time
