Description
The Woodshop Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, monitoring, and maintaining woodworking machinery used in the production of upholstered furniture frames and wood components. This position supports daily production goals by ensuring equipment operates safely and efficiently while maintaining Jonathan Louis International (“JL”) quality standards. The Woodshop Machine Operator plays a key role in supporting production flow, material quality, and workplace safety within the Woodshop Department.
Job Responsibilities
- Set up, calibrate, and operate woodworking machinery and production equipment according to production specifications and safety standards.
- Operate equipment such as saws, drills, routers, pneumatic tools, staple guns, and other woodworking machinery safely and efficiently.
- Read and follow production schedules, work orders, and assembly specifications accurately.
- Monitor machine performance during operation and make adjustments as needed to maintain efficiency and product quality.
- Inspect wood materials, components, and finished products to ensure compliance with JL quality standards.
- Perform routine machine checks, basic troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance activities as assigned.
- Identify and report equipment malfunctions, material defects, safety concerns, or production issues to leadership promptly.
- Assist with training and supporting new machine operators and production team members as needed.
- Maintain accurate production flow and support departmental productivity goals.
- Follow all company safety procedures, policies, and housekeeping standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout the shift.
- Support teamwork and collaboration across departments to ensure efficient workflow and on-time production completion.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support operational and departmental needs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- 1–3 years of woodworking, machine operation, furniture manufacturing, or related production experience preferred.
- Experience operating woodworking or manufacturing equipment in a fast-paced production environment preferred.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills preferred.
- Ability to read and follow work instructions, production schedules, and safety procedures accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, or move wood materials and furniture components within established weight guidelines.
- Ability to safely operate woodworking machinery, hand tools, and pneumatic equipment throughout the work shift.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to dust, noise, varying temperatures, and limited climate control.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including hearing protection, eye protection, and other safety equipment as required.
