Why we need you

We are looking for a dependable, energetic, and customer-focused team member to represent Ground Market at the Pearl District Farmers Market in Portland during our busy summer season. This is a seasonal, part-time Sunday position running from June 7 through September 27, with a consistent weekly schedule and the opportunity to work independently while engaging with our community and customers.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys customer interaction, working outdoors, and being part of a fast-paced market environment.

Schedule & Compensation

• Sundays, approximately 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM 
• Farmers Market hours: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM 
• Seasonal position: June 7 – September 27 
• Pay: $21–23/hour, depending on experience

Responsibilities for Sales Associate

• Drive to the Ground Market farmstand in Yamhill to pick up the market truck (pre-loaded and ready for market) 
• Safely drive the market truck to and from the Pearl District Farmers Market in Portland 
• Set up and break down the farmers market booth, including tents, freezers, display stands, signage, and product displays 
• Staff the booth during market hours, assisting customers and processing sales 
• Greet and engage customers in a warm, knowledgeable, and professional manner 
• Maintain current knowledge of Ground Market products and partners to effectively answer questions and make recommendations 
• Maintain the appearance and cleanliness of the booth throughout the market day 
• At the end of the market, return the truck to the farmstand in Yamhill and unload freezers and market equipment

Qualifications

• Friendly, personable, and passionate about providing excellent customer service 
• Comfortable working independently and taking initiative without direct supervision 
• Experience in retail sales, hospitality, farmers markets, or customer-facing environments preferred 
• Experience using Point of Sale systems, preferably Square 
• Strong communication skills in person and by phone 
• Ability to engage customers and create a positive market experience 
• Interest in and enthusiasm for local food, regenerative agriculture, and grass-fed meat products 
• Reliable transportation to Yamhill 
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required 
• Must be available to work Sundays throughout the season

Working conditions: Position requires prolonged standing, bending, and lifting products and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds

Experience: 2+ years of experience in retail sales, farmers markets, hospitality, or similar

Work Location: This position operates primarily at the Pearl District Farmers Market in Portland, Oregon, with weekly pickup and return of the market truck at the Ground Market farmstand in Yamhill, Oregon.
