 A&K Railroad Materials is a leading supplier of new and used railroad track materials, headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah. Our nationwide network includes distribution, manufacturing, and sales locations strategically positioned across the United States. In addition to track materials, A&K supports railroad operations serving critical infrastructure in Mississippi and Kansas, along with railcar storage facilities in multiple states.


We are seeking a highly organized, polished, and dependable Corporate Legal Assistant to support our legal department and related executive functions. This role provides administrative, organizational, and project support across a broad range of corporate, legal, safety, and business matters, offering the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution in a fast-paced and collaborative rail industry environment.


A&K’s Salt Lake City headquarters is home to key members of the executive team, as well as professionals across sales, operations, accounting, and financial planning and analysis. In this role, you will provide direct support to a member of the executive team (Vice President & General Counsel) and assist with a variety of legal department and executive functions. The legal matters handled by the department are diverse and include labor and employment, litigation, international shipping, contracts, and other business-related issues. The Corporate Legal Assistant will support both ongoing and project-based work across multiple business groups. This role calls for strong organizational skills, sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to provide practical, high-quality support to legal and business initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

  • Legal Department Support — Provide day-to-day administrative and organizational support for the legal department, including maintaining files, tracking legal matters, and supporting internal workflows and litigation.
  • Contract and Document Coordination — Assist with preparing, proofreading, formatting, routing, reviewing, and organizing contracts, correspondence, reports, policies, corporate records, and other legal and business documents.
  • Executive Support — Support executive functions by coordinating schedules, preparing meeting materials, managing follow-up items, and handling sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Calendar and Deadline Management — Maintain calendars, monitor deadlines, and coordinate meetings, filings, renewals, and other time-sensitive matters.
  • Corporate Records Management — Organize and maintain legal and safety records, agreements, compliance materials, document holds, and departmental files.
  • Communication and Correspondence — Draft, edit, and manage professional correspondence, reports, internal communications, summaries, and other materials for the legal department and executive leadership.
  • Research and Special Projects — Conduct basic legal and business research, gather information, and assist with special projects assigned by the General Counsel.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination — Work with internal departments and outside parties to collect information, track action items, and support the efficient completion of legal, operational, and executive initiatives.


Requirements

 Required Qualifications:

  • Relevant Experience — 2–5 years of experience in a legal assistant position with a law firm or corporate legal department.
  • Technical Skills — Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Copilot and other AI tools, Legal Research Sites, with the ability to prepare polished and accurate documents.
  • Communication Skills — Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft, edit, and manage professional correspondence and materials.
  • Organization — Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accuracy, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Confidentiality and Judgment — Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Subject Matter Familiarity — Familiarity with litigation, contracts, corporate documents, records retention, compliance documentation or use of Westlaw/Practical Law Connect.
  • Education — Bachelor’s degree
