Position Overview

The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) will provide comprehensive women’s healthcare services in both outpatient and inpatient settings, including obstetric and gynecologic care within the scope of midwifery practice. The CNM will work collaboratively with OB/GYN physicians, Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centered care.

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive prenatal, antepartum, postpartum, gynecologic, and preventive women’s healthcare services within the scope of certified nurse midwifery practice
  • Perform routine obstetric and gynecologic evaluations, assessments, counseling, and patient education
  • Manage low-risk pregnancies and collaborate with physicians regarding high-risk or medically complex patients
  • Recognize complications and initiate appropriate consultation, referral, transfer, or physician involvement as clinically indicated
  • Participate in labor management and delivery care consistent with credentialing and privileges
  • Assist with hospital rounding and inpatient patient management as needed
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant medical documentation within the electronic medical record
  • Close all charts within 48 hours of patient encounters
  • Adhere to assigned clinic schedules and patient volumes daily in a combined obstetric and gynecologic schedule
  • Arrive prepared and available for scheduled clinic sessions set starting time, regardless of active patient schedule
  • Assist with non-stress tests (NSTs), patient calls, inbox management, and other clinical support duties during periods without scheduled patients
  • See gynecologic and obstetric patients, excluding surgical consultations, during physician absences related to deliveries, surgery, or other obligations
  • Participate in shared call coverage and collaborative patient care activities as assigned
  • Adhere to clinical protocols, patient safety initiatives, infection prevention standards, and organizational policies

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • May assist in clinical oversight and coordination with nursing staff, medical assistants, and ancillary clinical personnel
  • Participate in mentoring, onboarding, and educational support of staff as appropriate

Qualifications

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nurse Midwifery from an accredited program
  • Current certification as a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) through the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB)
  • Active or eligible Arizona Registered Nurse (RN) and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure
  • Current DEA registration or ability to obtain prior to employment
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications or ability to obtain prior to start date
  • Women’s health or obstetric clinical experience preferred

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in outpatient obstetrics and gynecology practice
  • Experience collaborating within physician-led or multispecialty care models
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records and quality documentation standards
  • Interest in quality improvement and patient satisfaction initiatives


Work Environment

  • Combination of outpatient clinic, hospital, labor and delivery, and inpatient rounding environments
  • Exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, and bodily fluids
  • Fast-paced clinical setting requiring multitasking, adaptability, and critical thinking
  • Frequent interaction with patients, families, providers, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams

  • Ability to respond effectively in urgent or emergent clinical situations
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including call coverage, as required by patient care needs
