J Camp Extended Care Counselors are responsible for ensuring a safe and positive experience for their designated group of campers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assume responsibilities for a group of campers under their care to ensure a positive and safe camp experience.
- Actively participate in and supervise activities during J Camp, including the pool.
- Plan and lead camp activities.
- Assure campers are always properly supervised.
- Ensure that the spaces used for J Camp are thoroughly cleaned before leaving.
- Support the emotional and social wellbeing of the campers through positive behavior management, supportive interactions, and conflict resolution.
- Communicate regularly and appropriately with the rest of the J Camp staff team, both verbally and in writing.
- Ensure children get to where they need to go as directed by the J Camp leadership team.
- Act as a positive ambassador of the SJCC both inside and outside of the SJCC
- Follow all emergency procedures at the SJCC.
- Perform work on weekends and evenings as needed to meet applicable deadlines or scheduling needs.
- Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education/Experience: Experience and/or training working with children preferred. Attendance at J Camp staff training is required unless approval to train separately is granted in writing by the camp director.
Other Skills: Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification for adults/infants/children, through an approved certifying body.

Physical Demands: To perform the job, the employee is frequently required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, climb, balance, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, and reach with hands and arms. The incumbent may be required to carry materials (presentation) weighing up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
Environmental Conditions: The work is performed both inside and outside with a moderate to loud noise level in varying weather questions. Entering a pool and boating may be required. Extreme weather, including high heat and rain, is possible. Environmental conditions may include slippery surfaces, crowded areas, and working near moving parts (e.g. exercise equipment) in varying weather conditions. Local travel may be required.
