Position Summary
The Security Officer is a frontline member of Gifthealth's security team, responsible for protecting personnel, property, and assets at assigned Gifthealth facilities. Working under the direction of the Security Supervisor, Officers carry out patrols, manage access control, respond to incidents, and uphold a safe and secure environment that supports Gifthealth's operational mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular foot patrols of interior and exterior areas; monitor for unauthorized activity, safety hazards, or policy violations.
- Control access to facilities by verifying credentials, maintaining visitor logs, and enforcing entry procedures.
- Monitor surveillance systems and alarm panels; report and respond to alerts according to established protocols.
- Respond promptly to security incidents, medical emergencies, or disturbances; provide first-response assistance and notify appropriate personnel.
- Prepare accurate, timely incident reports documenting observations, actions taken, and outcomes.
- Provide visible, professional security presence that deters theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access.
- Assist employees and visitors with directions, safety guidance, and general inquiries.
- Support emergency evacuation procedures and participate in safety drills.
- Maintain all security equipment in proper working condition; report malfunctions to the Supervisor immediately.
- Adhere to all Gifthealth security policies, post orders, and applicable local regulations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent (required).
- Valid security guard license (state-specific requirements apply) (required).
- CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire)(required).
- Reliable, punctual, and professional demeanor with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in dynamic situations.
- Basic written communication skills; ability to complete clear, accurate written reports.
- Ability to respond quickly to security related events and medical incidents, lift or carry equipment, participate in defensive tactics/personal protection training and numerous other physically demanding tasks.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods.
- 1+ years of experience in security, loss prevention, military, or law enforcement (preferred).
- Experience in a healthcare, pharmaceutical, or regulated facility environment (preferred).
- Familiarity with access control systems and CCTV monitoring (preferred).
Work Environment
- Location: On-site
- Schedule: Full-time
- May require additional availability during or flexibility for escalations.
- Regular meetings with your teams, departments, or leadership to ensure alignment.
Key Essential Functions
- Must be able to stand and/or walk for at least 4 hours at a time while working.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Must be able to perform repetitive physical motions throughout an entire shift, including bending, reaching, lifting, climbing stairs, patrolling, and operating security equipment.
- Must be able to respond quickly to emergencies and physically navigate all areas of the facility as needed.
- Must be able to work onsite for all scheduled shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
- Must be able to visually monitor surveillance systems and accurately observe surroundings for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in person, by radio, phone, and written documentation during routine and emergency situations.
- Must be able to safely operate security and access control equipment, including radios, CCTV systems, badge systems, and alarm monitoring technology.
- Must be able to maintain focus and exercise sound judgment in high-pressure or emergency situations.
