Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of HR Operations & Analytics, the Senior Human Resources Generalist serves as a high-impact contributor within Gifthealth’s HR department, providing both senior-level generalist expertise and operational leadership across HR Operations. This role is responsible for helping oversee HR Specialists and Coordinators on a day-to-day basis, ensuring the consistent and accurate delivery of HR administrative functions, while independently managing compliance obligations and cross-functional HR programs.
We are seeking a Senior HR Generalist who brings deep HR expertise, strong leadership instincts, and the organizational discipline to keep a high-volume HR Ops function running smoothly. This position may provide guidance and informal leadership to junior HR staff and plays a meaningful role in shaping a consistent, compliant, and people-centered employee experience across Gifthealth.
Key Responsibilities
- Manages employee lifecycle data including onboarding, transfers, and terminations, ensuring timely and accurate updates across HR systems
- Maintains personnel records and HR documentation with a strong focus on data accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with record-retention requirements
- Maintains current working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws; ensures HR Operations practices, offer letters, leave policies, and required notices remain compliant across all states where Gifthealth employs staff.
- Specialist development and standardization. Develops training materials, desk references, and standard operating procedures for HR Operations functions; ensures consistent practices across HR Specialists regardless of business unit or location supported.
- Serves as a knowledgeable resource for managers and employees on HR policy interpretation, employment law, and best practices; escalates matters to HR leadership when appropriate.
- Keeps management and operations informed of internal and external HR developments that may affect organizational effectiveness.
- Proactively reviews HR policies and procedures for compliance gaps; drafts recommended updates and partners with HR leadership and legal counsel prior to implementation.
- Oversees the assignment, tracking, and documentation of mandatory and non-mandatory training, including safety, anti-harassment, professional licensure, and aptitude certifications; follows up with HR Specialists and managers on completion gaps.
- Conducts or coordinates background checks, drug screening, and employee eligibility verifications in compliance with applicable law and company policy.
- Reviews and approves HR-driven payroll changes (new hires, terminations, status changes, compensation adjustments) for accuracy before submission; ensures proper FLSA classification is applied and documented.
- Maintains and audits employee records in Paylocity; ensures HR Operations staff are entering data accurately and consistently; runs and distributes routine HR reports to support business needs and compliance obligations.
- Assists with the HR Ops onboarding process to ensure every new hire completes required paperwork, receives system access, and is set up in payroll accurately and on time.
- Supports the design, documentation, and continuous improvement of HR Operations workflows, including onboarding, offboarding, leave administration, payroll coordination, and records management; identifies and closes process gaps.
- Leads or supports cross-functional HR projects and process improvement initiatives; represents HR Operations in working groups, system implementations, and organizational change efforts.
- Monitors HR trends, regulatory developments, and emerging best practices; applies new knowledge to improve programs and processes at Gifthealth.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (Required)
- Licensure/Certification: SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) (Required, or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire)
- Experience:
- 5+ years of progressive HR generalist experience (Required)
- Demonstrated experience independently managing employee relations matters including investigations and disciplinary processes (Required)
- Prior experience providing guidance, oversight, or informal leadership to HR staff or Coordinators (Required)
- Experience supporting a multi-site or multi-state workforce (Required)
- Familiarity with Paylocity or a comparable HRIS platform preferred
- Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws with the ability to apply legal requirements to real-world HR situations (Required)
- Knowledge of HR compliance requirements (e.g., wage and hour, record retention, FMLA basics, I9, and confidentiality standards); and HRIS platforms and related HR technologies used to maintain employee data, process transactions, and generate reports (Required)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including comfort communicating with senior leadership (Required)
- Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills (Required)
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail across multiple concurrent priorities (Required)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise sound independent judgment (Required)
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage competing demands, and delegate appropriately (Required)
- Demonstrated ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality in all matters (Required)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to quickly learn HRIS and talent management systems (Required)
Work Environment
- Location: On-site / Hybrid as applicable
- Schedule: 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Monday through Friday with occasional hours as determined by the needs of the business
- Regular meetings with internal Warehouse, Pharmacy, Logistics, Safety, Compliance, Quality, Training, Operations Management, and HR teams. This role may also have meetings with external vendor and consultant partner representatives. This role operates with a high degree of autonomy and is expected to represent the HR function credibly in cross-functional conversations, sensitive employee situations, and escalations from HR Ops staff.
Key Essential Functions
