Important Information: This role is a year-long grant funded position. The position is expected to last 12 months, and will have full-time 40 hour weeks.

Job Summary :

Support the Food Bank's sourcing strategies by conducting outreach to prospective food donors and vendors in rural parts of our service area. Use your communication skills and knowledge of regional food systems to find new sources of food for our Neighbors experiencing food insecurity. Help establish relationships with local food producers and link them to partners fighting hunger in their own communities.
 

This is a temporary, grant-funded position projected to last one year.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Identify new food donors and vendors (primarily in Washington, Greene, and Indiana Counties), using data from Feeding America, public sources, and input from the Supply Chain Strategy Team. Focus on the following categories: county fairs, animal auctions, produce auctions, farmers markets, on-farm markets, meat processors, dairies, ranches, and protein vendors.
  • Conduct over-the-phone and in person outreach and screenings of potential donors and vendors to document their interest and ability to work with the Food Bank’s Partner Network
  • Support the stewarding and cultivation of new donors and vendors alongside the Procurement & Planning and Food Recovery teams.
  • Document the successes and challenges of the prospecting process and share updates with the Supply Chain Strategy Team to aid in continual improvement. 
  • Track engagement and outreach efforts, entering and updating existing vendor and donor records into our CRM.


Qualifications

  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and customer service communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience related to food studies preferred, but experience in outside sales, purchasing, supply chain management, or agricultural production will be considered. 
  • Familiarity with the local food system in Southwestern Pennsylvania , with special consideration for connections to one or more of our target counties listed above. 
  • Excellent planning/organizing skills, with the ability to create and execute action plans. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and comfort with learning new systems. CRM and ERP system experience is a plus. 
  • Possess an attitude of collaboration and teamwork for working with colleagues and a genuine joy for working with community organizations. 
  • Must possess a reliable vehicle and valid Pennsylvania Driver’s license. Work travel is reimbursed at the federal reimbursement rate. This job requires regular travel throughout the territory. 
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and fluid donation environment. 
  • Must be willing to attend conferences, meetings, and occasionally to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness and monitors own work to ensure excellent quality.
  • Able to Obtain Act 33 & 34 Clearances
