The Marker Maker is responsible for creating efficient cutting markers for fabrics, leather, vinyl, and other upholstery materials used in furniture manufacturing. This role works closely with the cutting department, production planning, upholstery, and purchasing teams to maximize material yield, reduce waste, and ensure accurate cutting layouts for production.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain cutting markers for upholstery fabrics, vinyls, leather, and other related materials.
- Utilize CAD/CAM or marker-making software to develop efficient cutting layouts.
- Analyze production orders, patterns, and specifications to determine material requirements.
- Optimize fabric utilization to minimize scrap and control material costs.
- Review pattern pieces for accuracy, grain direction, matching requirements, and quality standards.
- Coordinate with production, cutting, sewing, upholstery, and engineering departments regarding marker revisions and production priorities.
- Ensure markers comply with customer specifications and furniture design requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of marker usage, fabric consumption, and material yields.
- Assist with troubleshooting cutting issues and pattern inconsistencies.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to waste reduction and production efficiency.
- Verify proper fabric repeats, pattern matching, and directional layouts when applicable.
- Follow all safety procedures and company policies.
- Any other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience in furniture manufacturing, upholstery, textile cutting, or apparel manufacturing preferred.
- Experience with CAD marker-making software preferred.
- Strong mathematical and measurement skills.
- Ability to read production specifications, patterns, and work orders.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
