TreePeople is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Government Grants Writer to support our public grants program. The Government Grants Writer will identify, define, develop, write, and submit grant proposals. Primary responsibilities include supporting TreePeople’s government grants portfolio from identification to submission; coordinating the preparation of proposals, grant applications, and coordination of requisite reports; providing strategies and support for researching, identifying, developing, responding to, and tracking public grant opportunities; working closely with the Controller and Acting CFO, directors, and managers across the organization on relevant grants.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support TreePeople’s public grants program;
Provide strategies to proactively identify, apply, and execute public funding opportunities, including federal, state, and local grants;
Develop, maintain, and enhance relationships with public funding agencies, professional governmental associations, and other public funding entities;
Coordinate with key TreePeople team members to develop, plan, write, and submit grant proposals for new and existing programs;
Regularly communicate with directors and project managers within the organization to help monitor alignment of project progress, deliverables, and timeline to ensure project compliance;
Advise and coordinate on development and writing or co-writing of interim and final reports for funded programs, including meeting with/interviewing directors, managers, and team members regarding progress of grant funded projects;
Represent TreePeople in project development with partners and project negotiation with funding agencies of resulting grants, contracts, and agreements;
Develop, interpret, and apply TreePeople’s policies and procedures for grants and projects;
Actively and regularly identify potential funding sources and opportunities for environmental programming;
Stay abreast of significant funding trends related to the environment, including specific opportunities that are in preliminary stages of development;
Work with program and finance team to maintain records of activities, compliance, and budgets as they relate to reports on awarded grants;
Support special campaigns and initiatives and work collaboratively with various departments by preparing proposals and reports as needed;
Work closely with the Controller and Acting CFO, directors, and managers across the organization as needed.
BA/BS or higher degree in English, Environmental Studies (water, forestry, urban sustainability), public health, policy or a related field;
Minimum of 3-5 years grants writing and/or management experience;
Demonstrated leadership and supervising skills, especially working with environmental non-profit organizations;
Excellent written and oral communications;
Excellent presentation skills;
Excellent organizational skills and familiarity with grant tracking systems;
Positive attitude and team spirit;
Demonstrated experience working with public funding agencies.
