Job Summary

The pastry chef is responsible for preparing, baking, and presenting desserts such as cakes, pastries, breads, and plated sweets. They ensure high-quality standards, develop recipes, and often lead dessert sections in kitchens.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and bake a wide variety of desserts (cakes, pastries, pies, breads, chocolates)
  • Design and create new dessert menus and recipes
  • Decorate pastries and desserts with artistic presentation
  • Monitor ingredient quality and kitchen cleanliness
  • Manage inventory and order supplies
  • Supervise and train junior pastry staff
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards
  • Work with head chefs to coordinate menu planning

Typical Requirements:

  • Culinary or pastry arts diploma (optional but preferred)
  • Experience in a bakery, restaurant, or hotel kitchen
  • Hands-on baking and decorating experience
