POSITION SUMMARY:
Assists with routine maintenance, custodial, and groundskeeping duties for YMCA facilities,
grounds, and equipment under the supervision of skilled maintenance staff. Performs
general support tasks in a safe manner consistent with YMCA policies and Florida Minor
Labor Laws
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Works under supervision with skilled technicians in the performance of routine
maintenance and minor repairs to buildings and equipment.
• Assists in repairing non-hazardous building fixtures including windows, doors, locks,
and blinds.
• Assists with minor plumbing fixture repairs including toilets, sinks, and urinals.
• Responds to routine maintenance requests as assigned and with supervision.
• Performs basic carpentry and facility support tasks including ceiling tile replacement,
drywall patching, painting, and light repairs.
• Performs light custodial duties and general clean-up of assigned work areas.
• Assists with basic grounds maintenance as needed.
• Uses only approved tools and equipment as authorized, trained, and permitted under
Florida Minor Labor Laws and YMCA safety policies.
• Will not operate power-driven machinery, power tools, forklifts, lawn equipment, or
other hazardous equipment prohibited for minors under applicable law.
• Will not handle, mix, or apply hazardous chemicals or other hazardous substances.
• Will not perform roofing work or work performed on rooftops.
• Will not work on ladders or elevated platforms exceeding six (6) feet in height.
• Responsible for following all staff safety requirements, including cleaning and
sanitation protocols.
• Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of allowable duties under Florida
Minor Labor Laws.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Must adhere to the YMCA’s drug/alcohol/smoke-free workplace policy.
• Successfully complete State of Florida Criminal History Background Check
requirements and meet the Association’s policies on background screening.
• Ability to work cooperatively with staff, members, and supervisors.
CERTIFICATIONS AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
• CPR and First Aid Certifications required.
• Annual completion of YMCA Blood Borne Pathogens Training.
• Annual completion of YMCA Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Training.
• Staff Safety Requirements/Cleaning Protocols Training.
• Additional training classes as recommended by Supervisor.
